Anyone using Revolt as a Discord alternative? What has your experience with it been? Do the voice chats work reliably? What about screen sharing? Is it easy to use? What hardware do you host it on? What about moving people over from Discord to Revolt?

I'm considering buying some.more solid self hosting hardware at some point and considering hosting a Revolt server for friends and a community that we're moderating.

Other software recomendations are also welcome, but keep in mind that voice chats and screen sharing are features that we very often use, so something that's primarily text-based like matrix won't work.

I'd also like to hear your thoughts on converting people to non-mainstream software. I'd expect it to not work so smoothly, since discord is such a go-to platform for so many people and most of them follow multiple communities on there. The convenience aspect is a big thing.

Please share whatever thoughts you have on this topic.

This is a very rare use case, but one where i definetly found them very useful. Similar to another answer mentioning reverse-dictionary lookup, i used llms for reverse-song/movie lookup. That is, i describe what i know about the song/movie (whatever else, could be many things) and it gives me a list of names that i can then manually check or just directly recognize.

This is useful for me because i tend to not remember names / artists / actor names, etc.

I disagree and think it depends on where you live

Some of these products would not exist without their American counterpart, which directly fuel their existance.

Librewolf is just a hardened version of Firefox. It would not exist without the Firefox team continuing to develop Firefox and to fix its security issues.

Ecosia primarely uses Bing and Startpage uses Google for search results. Both would not exist without the search engines backing them.

I'm not saying these are bad products and I don't mean to criticiseze. I'm actually a librewolf user myself. I just think it is important to point out that the European label might be deceiving in this instance and might mislead people into thinking they are using something different than they actually are.

It might also not be so important. Perhaps focusing our energy on good open source projects and NGO-backed initiatives is desirable regardless of their origin?

idk food for thought

Hi there!

I need some help with this individual. It's a snake plant (i don't know the exact species). I've had it for a few years, and it's been doing quite well.

However, it grows really sporadically and it started taking up quite a bit of space. It has some strange growth, due to a bulb leaning to one side at some point. I also can't sustain the weight of some of its own leaves so they hang laterally.

I don't know how it can be helped / remodelled. Maybe a bigger pot could help, idk? I've also though of removing some leaves, but i'm afraid of damaging it.

Suggestions are very welcome.
