No, that is not a western characteristic, but a human one. Given the condition for exploitation each system of government will do that. China does it, India does it, Saudi does it. If you consider also Russia “not western” then also Russia does it. The fact that some western countries were better at hegemonic dominance is the result of historical military prowess, more than cultural alignment. Finland, Austria, Ireland are not particularly different in cultural makeup from Sweden, Germany and Britain, but their role in historical colonialism and exploitation differs a lot.

As if “the West” is one and the same with the US. It is like judging the entire south east pacific by the action of China.

Germany is western, and distrust the US nearly as much as Russia. 73% of French do not see the US as an ally. What is the criticism of “the West”? An entity that is only united by a shared cultural historical root, and a geographical affinity?

The problem is the US, acting as shield for Israel actions. Not the civilized world. The US is not civilized.

Not really newsworthy: all new releases are new features and new bugs. That is how bugs are born: untested new features. It is the standard for software development. Testing software is hard.

Just the ram costs now 250$, was 60$ April 2025. NVME SSD 256 costs now 90$, was 30$ on April 2025. That is 250$ more on the cheaper model from just these two components. All parts costs more now, and shipping is more expensive.

16gb of ram cost 100$ more now. The SSD cost another 100$ more. We know they are for profit. Steam deck is just too expensive to make. That’s it. Why you feel entitled to getting hardware cheaper than production cost?

means that the federal government must take that money out of the pockets of hardworking people

reminds me of the 30 billion dollars given to fossil-fuel firms in direct subsidies.

Most? With the amount of people running laptop docked I would say that is not the case for most business laptops for sure.

Same in Italy. We have Bancomat which is ubiquitous since 1983 in every store, and since 2013 we have Satispay. This is hardly new in the EU.

Both of them simply patch support back in, but they will not be able to do that once the code is actually removed from chromium upstream on later versions. They are not going to maintain it. Helium will take Brave route and integrate the Adblock (probably brave one that is open source). But this is irrelevant, at the end of the day the main topic is the fact that google decided v2 had to go, and other derivatives browser had to comply as they have not enough resources to maintain a full fork of chromium.

V3 yes, obviously. V3 is what caused the reduction in API that prevented proper adblocking. V3 adblocker are less capable, cannot do dynamic blocking and delegate the blocking to the browser that can impose rules.

Brave work around this by directly injecting the adblocker in the browser, bypassing extensions API entirely. Other browsers do not do that. As of today I do not know of any browser maintaining a fork of v2. When Google killed it with v3 it was gone. Which browser are you talking about?

No, open source chromium parts are not fine. You can see this with the effort from Google to limit adblocker extensions with manifest v3, now backed in chromium. In the past other browsers had to strip privacy sandbox from chromium. Google tried to put WEI directly in chromium before it was stripped in November 2023. Google has become the cancer of modern web and abuses chromium to impose control over 80% of browser market, the same way Apple does on iOS. Long gone the time when Google motto was “don’t be evil”.
