Why the mental gymnastics to basically say "Hey, i really like free shit!"

Sigh, should have stood quiet. Now 10 people are going to vibe code this and it's going to be slop and full of security holes. I have to say though, I would love something along these lines. After X number of days on server, downgrade to x265 720p. Would be great for space saving.

OP: I've gone though so many dead disks that I have to rebuild from scratch before my NAS, ONLY keep what you are going to watch/use. If you want to keep the other stuff (harder to find only imo) burn it off to throw it at some external spinning disks that you can unplug and put into long term storage.

This is so true. I fucking LOATHE FB but our city has a fb group on it and it's dummy useful. I've tried to move them over to a hosted forum but only one person came. It's like people are just stuck hard on FB and won't ditch it come hell or high water.

This is becoming a losing battle. They are attacking vpns and the root servers all to protect European football.

I really don't see this as being useful for anyone outside of hard archivest. The bitrates are pretty trash. I guess if you just a setup with an incredible amount of music no matter what, this is for you. IMHO the meta data is worth more than these lower quality sound files although we have meta data for what's out there now.

Outside of that here is what and how they are going to release. I'm guessing this drop was their "popular" track drop. From their site:

For popularity>0, we got close to all tracks on the platform. The quality is the original OGG Vorbis at 160kbit/s. Metadata was added without reencoding the audio (and an archive of diff files is available to reconstruct the original files from Spotify, as well as a metadata file with original hashes and checksums).

For popularity=0, we got files representing about half the number of listens (either original or a copy with the same ISRC). The audio is reencoded to OGG Opus at 75kbit/s — sounding the same to most people, but noticeable to an expert.

All you all know there are entire sites dedicated to cloud storage sharing right? We also have OD's and OGD's. Link shared GD's. None of this is new, it's been this way since you could drag anything down off a BBS or mainframe. We have been sharing in every manner you can think of since it's been possible, digital just made it dummy easy.

Why download though? Tubesites abound. VPN's are cheap af. Get cheap ass VPN, watch porn. Done. Even if the vpn is sleezy who cares, you just need it to show you are in a state that doens't give a shit about those kinda laws (MA in the US doesn't have those restrictions).

Also mentioned a hoard of times, yt-dlp works (just get the latest from github). Still, it's porn. Unless it's something ultra specific that you were looking for or something rare, just hit up a tube site.

They already have product placement in TV and Movies. They are getting eyeballs on those even when pirated. They need to realize the ad/commercial way to make money is the line in the sand with pirates that they won't cross but we happily ignore product placement.

It started to get super political and they didn't want to deal with that or have to take a ton of time cleaning up the comment section. I get it. I, too, miss the discussions on there but wow, about 6months before they killed them off it was a disaster.

Makes me wonder how much of this was due to IA having the federal deposit label now. That had to have chopped the lawsuit in half as they can legally hold all of that music. The confidential part speaks volumes.
