And I feel like this war with Iran will just accelerate it. Lots of AI investment come from Arab countries, right? The ones who are suffering the damage from the war that Israel started because of their alliances.

Certainly, but hopefully you won’t turn on your PC and have 50 popups and 10 different buttons blinking and getting in the way of each other begging you to try AI.

They’d probably spend resources on that if there was a critical mass of people. The reason they don’t care is that people aren’t on the Fediverse.

I always said the end will come not from nuclear weapons, or solar flairs, asteroids etc. it will come from something that’s seemingly silent on the news and popular perception, but that will destabilize the whole system we depended on. It’s not just bugs that are vanishing at unprecedented rate, but all species.

Also if there is constant outages as well, it’s not just about Internet connection. The impact is much larger on everything.

Yeah, the definition is (or at least used to be) that a startup doesn’t have a business model yet.

“One of the things I really love about Wikipedia is it forces you to have measured, emotionless conversations with people you disagree with in the name of trying to construct the accurate narrative,”

Yeah, I think what makes Wikipedia resilient is that you can’t just go there and say something subjective. You need to find the correct way to state the actual fact, even when it can have different interpretations. Cause that way, no group can contest it.

I’d love to play around with something like this, as a programmer myself, but unfortunately the cost is prohibitive in my country.

I don’t know, even people here are already considering it a loss of the only way is through ADB, because it’s not practical for everyday usage. But it’s better than nothing.

I think adb can also work over Wi-Fi, just like Android Studio can connect to the phone and build and install without plugging it.

The iOS 18.3.2, iPadOS 18.3.2, macOS Sequoia 15.3.2, and visionOS 2.3.2 updates that Apple released today include an important security fix for a WebKit vulnerability that may have been actively exploited.

A team of volunteer archivists has recreated the Centers for Disease Control website exactly as it was the day Donald Trump was inaugurated. The site, called RestoredCDC.org, went live Tuesday and is currently being hosted in Europe.

As we have been following since the beginning of Trump’s second term, websites across the entire federal government have been altered and taken offline under this administration’s war on science, health, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Critical information promoting vaccines, HIV care, reproductive health options including abortion, and trans and gender confirmation healthcare have been purged from the CDC’s live website under Trump. Disease surveillance data about bird flu and other concerns have either been delayed or have stopped being updated entirely. Some deleted pages across the government have at least temporarily been restored thanks to a court order, but the Trump administration has added a note rejecting “gender ideology” to some of them.

“Our goal is to provide a resource that includes the information and data previously available,” the team wrote. “We are committed to providing the previously available webpages and data, from before the potential tampering occurred. Our approach is to be as transparent as possible about our process. We plan to gather archival data and then remove CDC logos and branding, using GitHub to host our code to create the site.”
