You're on the money with compatibility. At work I have equipment with accompanied proprietary software designed to run on RHEL. All hosts on my network run it, about 60% desktop and the rest blades
A bit niche. I wanted to be comfortable with the system both as a user and as an admin so I daily drive it. Not the best user experience, but I've learned how to work around most issues people encounter with it and it's helped a lot
My preference outside of that would be really mixed. My spare time is dedicated to virtualization and containers so I'm mostly using a hypervisor like proxmox. As a desktop interface I'd probably choose something with gnome. Fedora is good, I've used it in the past and liked it
Yeah I will. Only really keeping it around for a few niche games, my daily driver is centos
Oof what's your deal
Most don't vote at all
What is that command piping to?
But what about the short term profits??
It's not impossible and not sustainable. A 12/5 or 10/6 is considered "normal" in my industry/company. It's toxic af but a lot workplaces in the US bake in competition as either an incentive for compensation. Some teams have a mandatory oncall rotation that fits that schedule if not slightly more
The number of people replying anecdotally to this and other comments make me think it's a lot more pervasive than I'd assumed. Young people in particular are being encouraged to work these kinds of hours to "get ahead" or "show initiative" in the hopes they don't get laid off or overlooked for promotions
I personally work it and I cannot handle it. The second I'm home my brain is done, only have time to do some mild (unhealthy usually) mental decompression and sleep poorly lol
Good on you for taking care of yourself. Hope you're doing well
Jellyfin is a nice frontend + transcode manager for your folder of mashed up .mp4 files. Main benefit is streaming to any device (with compatible jf client) on your network
