They finally found it. The Blue Angel mushroom really does exist...

Whenever my partner and I stay at a hotel, we always get a kick out of how dystopian commercials have become.

I read this blog post from jrconlin about leaving Mozilla recently. I really appreciate the tone and insight and I think he hits the nail on the head about their leadership.

Can I mod that dpad though? I'd like individual buttons for each direction please.

Ahh yeah that makes sense. That'd be a pain in the ass if it was for every build.

I love lemmy. Thank you so much for your detailed response and fantastic article, its exactly what I was looking for. Seems like the bottleneck isnt really the infra. Definitely a difficult problem to solve.

I'm not a game dev so please forgive me if this is the wrong place for this type of question but I'm looking for some resources to try and understand why games take so long to compile.

For context, I've worked with former game devs who've mentioned that builds can take anywhere from 4 to 6 hours to complete - even with a distributed architecture - depending on the hardware. That shit blew my mind. They said it has something to do with compiling shader permutations but didn't go into anyore detail. That said, I have a very primitive understanding of what shaders are but I mostly work with infrastructure and optimizing build systems.

Like I said, I'm not a game dev, im just curious. I appreciate any insight or resources you throw my way. Thanks!

Just started using helix a few months ago and I'm in love. The movement took a second to get used to but its super efficient once you get the hang of it. I highly recommend it, especially if you're doing any kind of programming or sysadmin work and you hate gui ides.

Good shit, thank you!

Good looks, I'll check it out!

I hate how you need a phone number for everything these days... I'm looking for recommendations on an app or service for temporary phone numbers.

I know that "free" services exist for what I'm asking for but I don't like the idea of receiving potentially sensitive info in a place that anyone can access.

Ideally, something like "simple login" would be perfect. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Pen and paper for taking notes and understand that reading comprehension is a resource that has a cooldown. In other words, take breaks and learn how to glean information while reading quickly. Its a skill and it takes time. This is a decent breakdown of some academic reading techniques.

Lastly, practice and experiment. There's a difference between knowing things and memorizing, and knowing things is only half the battle. Its really hard to feel like you're progressing if you cant apply what you've learned when the time comes. Practice takes the the things you've memorized and turns them into things you know. My advice on practicing is to get weird, have fun and enjoy the discovery of learning new things. It makes the process of 'sucking until you dont' so much more enjoyable.

Cloudflare Tunnel? (lemmy.world)
submitted 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) by WhosMansIsThis@lemmy.world to c/selfhosted@lemmy.world

Just getting started with self hosting. I was wondering if anyone had experience with Cloudflare Tunnels for exposing their services to the internet. I like the simplicity and security it offers but don't love the idea of using Cloudflare. Like, I'm self hosting for a reason lol. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

For context, I'm running all of my services in a very small k8s cluster and my priorities are mostly security then maintainability. Thanks yall!

EDIT: yall are great! Thank you so much for the replies. I'm going try my luck with pangolin but its good to know I have options.
