Same. I keep my car and house keys separate so I can leave my house keys in the car and just carry the car key in my pocket. My house keys are just the remote and key to get into my house, nothing else.
My wife has all the other keys in her handbag, including all the spare keys because she can't find the main set in bag, so she takes the spares as well. Sometimes she also takes mine because she can't find the main set or the spare set in her bag (or wherever she placed them).

Normally I first try see if it is only the graphical interface that has crashed by pushing ctrl+alt+F1 or F2 or F3 to try and switch to another terminal. If I can switch, I log in and reboot or restart the window manager.
I also try SSH into the machine if I have another of around.
If I do reboot, then I use 'journalctl -b-1 -e' to see what happened at the time the system froze.
