You should consider donating to the internet archive.

“The Wikimedia Foundation has been exploring ways to make Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects more accessible to readers globally,” a Wikimedia Foundation spokesperson told me in an email. “This two-week, opt-in experiment was focused on making complex Wikipedia articles more accessible to people with different reading levels. For the purposes of this experiment, the summaries were generated by an open-weight Aya model by Cohere. It was meant to gauge interest in a feature like this, and to help us think about the right kind of community moderation systems to ensure humans remain central to deciding what information is shown on Wikipedia.”

Some very out of touch people in the Wikimedia Foundation. Fortunately the editors (people who actually write the articles) have the sense to oppose this move in mass.

Sure, but a genocide denier probably doesn't have that bit of nuance.

I swear I missed this somehow.

With the news that lemm.ee is shutting down, I'm trying to add my new account as a mod to the communities I mod.

I tried to add @irelephant@lemmy.world (one of my alts) as a mod to !ireland@lemmy.world but its not working.

Edit: I was able to do it in phtn.app instead.

How do you find all these matrix channels?

Commenting for people in the future, Typescript can be used in the backend (and is actually pretty popular there for some reason).

It does federate though, federation is multiple nodes in a network cooperating, which they do.
HTTP is a network even though it doesn't (usually) federate.

The main centralised part of bluesky right now is their decentralised identifiers right now.

DID:PLC is completely centralised. Its not actually a requirement for a did to be decentralised.

plc.directory is the only registry for them right now.

I hate single page apps that force you to click on a post to see comments, and don't let you open them in a new tab.

I agree, they really help.

As well as exit!

Does anyone have any alt-communities?

To the mods: You should consider moving this comm.

When an instance goes down, all of the images on it go with it. there's going to be a lot from lemm.ee, especially given its size.

Consider editing a few of your top posts to an archived version.

This was one of the best lemmy instances.
Thank you for all that you have done.
