There aren't any good outcomes for the US for the next few decades. Just bad and worse. I'll be long dead before any real improvement happens.

[–] HalfSalesman@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

don’t accept that the country is that far gone.

Not technically a liberal, but I think the country is that far gone and while I don't have an issue with non-state violence from the left (assuming its actually effective) I don't hold enough patriotism or feel any culpability for the current fascist admin to care to commit any myself. I expended a statistical anomaly of effort as an individual pre-November 5th to prevent Trump's victory. Drove hours to a different state in my junker ass car just to canvass in a swing state.

I'm done. I'm not putting my balls on the table when no one else seemed to have gave much of shit before. Just because the consequences are falling on everyone's stupid asses and now they all seem to care. Fuck em.

Man its really hard to enjoy good news these days when you know the grim reality of your own country's future... and what could have been.

Regardless of whether you are American, the act of voting itself isn't the only element. If you influenced people to not vote for Harris, you contributed to Trump's victory.

The time to act was 20 to 40 years ago, it’s been far too late for decades and only now you blame voter apathy instead of how horrible the Dems are and how fundamentally broken the American system is.

Those were massive shifts to the right and they absolutely fucked things, but they were back when democracy as a concept itself wasn't barely holding on by a thread in the US, AI wasn't a threat, and mitigation of climate change was still something that did not need to be immediately addressed as an emergency.

This was the 100% worst time for people to put their foot down against the centrist and rightwing democrats.

Maga figured this out, when will you?

Now this is a crock of shit. Maga hasn't learned anything, their stubborn refusal to learn about anything is arguably one of their defining features.

They absolutely have not learned, they might vote dem in greater numbers and we'll get a blue wave, but they are still going to be fundamentally moronic. The blue wave will be blunted by the in-fighting but even if its not and we also get a dem president in 2028 (we almost certainly will) the US will become increasingly hellish and miserable to live in anyway. There will be only so much a democrat can do

I intend to vote dem but that's just self interest now. I can't mentally invest in the suffering of masses of people that Republican vs Democrat victories will have because there is nothing I can do about it.

At this point, for your own sanity, I suggest you treat politics like the climate and weather. Which, just like real climate weather is going to get worse, not better. Focus on enjoying what time you have.

You don't understand. The harm is coming. There isn't much we can do now. It hardly even matters who wins in future elections at this point, the amount even the most progressive admin could do for decades is a tiny dent. All progressivism can achieve now is hospice care. Give us a metaphorically better drug as things get progressively worse.

The environment is collapsing. We've alienated all of our allies. We've allowed AI corporations to capture massive amounts of value with a direct threat to the working person's employment. America's aging demographics and newly massively expanded debt is going to cripple any kind of ability for a progressive government to make the average person's life worth living. Trump and his fascist buddies are going to get mostly away with it, submitting our country to future grifters who realize they'll suffer no consequences. They very core of our government structure now in a iron grip of fascist judges spread across ever nook and cranny, virtually impossible to remove. Dooming us to conservative social policy for the rest of our miserable fucking lives.

And for what? Palestine is as hellish as ever, if not far worse. And now we're at war with Iran.

We lost, and you are just coping. We will both burn slowly and painfully. And I'll know I tried to avoid this and know people like yourself did not.

I am disgusted at rightwing and zionist democrats, and I tell them such. I tell them I hate them as well. On the internet at least. But they aren't here and I also hate non-voters. And non-voting people are actually all around me. I'm reminded of their petulant stupidity constantly. They're all over Lemmy. They fill my small city's bar's with their bullshit "Both sides bad" rhetoric. I talk to them in person frequently, though I'd be a pariah if I admitted to them what I think of either group, but the vast majority of the stupidity is from the non-voters.

actual left

shitlibs

Liberals we're literally the original leftwing. They're where the term comes from, they were on the literal leftwing during the french revolution's republic.

But also, who cares? Who gives a fuck if someone is part of "The actual left"? What a stupid thing to care about.

Is it just a fucking badge or something?

Instead of attempting to divide the actual left with loser memes, these shitlibs should think harder about why they’re fash collaborators.

"These people need to understand how they're wrong and how I'm right. No I wont explain why."

(Also you could probably put everything under trump beneath kamala too. Effectively at least.)

Probably huh? Real convincing. IDK about everyone else, but I'm sold! Kamala Harris totally would have shut down USAID, created a massive brownshirt organization with gigantic funding, opened up horrific camps of immigrants, started a war with Iran to distract from her ties to Epstein...

How do you do this every day? How do you wake up in the morning and legitimately fucking tell yourself these things are true? What the fuck is going on in your god damned brain?

"Guilt tripping" I don't give a shit how guilty they are.

I simply I hate them, they are shitty people. There is no amount of guilt they could feel that would change that. They have done incredible damage through their apathy or abstemiousness, hurt countless people immediately and in the future. They've hurt millions of people. They've hurt people I love. They've hurt me.

FUCK THEM.

The idea that "not voting" is them doing anything to "get out of our dystopic shit hole political system" is aggressively fucking stupid.

It doesn't matter if I convince them that they were wrong now. We already got the bad result. Us getting democrats in office (or hell, even someone actually progressive) in the midterms and even the presidency in the future will barely put a dent into the massive damage that has been done. They've successfully dragged people into a sea of shit and we're probably all going to drown in it.

Unfortunately, I'm infected with the "Why do something unless you're trying to get gud?"

Which means, I'll try something for a while and if I think I have some base talent as a foundation and I don't have anything else I'm obsessed with at the time I'm absolutely going to fixate on it until I'm really good. But if I think I'm doomed to mediocrity I completely lose interest in it. Note that I don't have to start off good, I just need to feel an intuition of "Oh, I could go somewhere with this."

I suck at bowling and I don't ever want to do it. I only begrudgingly do it because friends drag me to it and if they let me I'll sit out and just chit chat instead of actually playing.

Its consciousness, not conscience. Conscience is specifically one's moral awareness.

Also its closer to 4 billion years.

That said, I understand her anger about stupid people. And people who slut shame can die in a fire.

[–] HalfSalesman@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I am of three minds on this issue.

The purely rational side, knowing that "evil" doesn't really exist and there is no such thing as free will so hating people doesn't really make sense.

The bitterly angry side, despite knowing its irrational finding pleasurable catharsis in visceral hatred of a majority of people because they've demonstrated that in so far that its possible to deserve anything, they've demonstrated they deserve my hatred. And that relating to such people is incredibly difficult and that I cannot be honest with them in person about how I feel without becoming a pariah.

And finally, the despairingly lonely side seeking a life worth living, wanting to forgive them all for my own sanity's sake. Not wanting to accept that I'm surrounded by awful and petulantly stupid people and constantly trying to find a reason to believe that I am not... and failing. To embrace this part would be delusion or hypocrisy and yet I really want to.
