Former emt Just jumping in on the first aid section: great writeup. I just wanted to double click on the "get educated" part of first aid. For example, a tourniquet is an incredible device, but it is very very dangerous if used incorrectly.

Know this: if a tourniquet is needed, and you apply it, it is not temporary. It is not a bandaid. It should not come off until you are in a hospital. It will fucking hurt. The limb it is applied to is in great danger, and higher level medical care needs to be sought ASAP. A normal person, especially one suffering shock, will not be able to walk on a tourniquet 'ed leg.

The only proper place for it to be removed is a hospital, because the implication is that there is work to be done to stabilize the wound and repair the vein or artery which is causing the serious bleeding.

Anyway to be clear I'm not criticizing the writeup at all. It's excellent. Just hammering home that gear you can buy on the internet can have serious consequences, and should be well understood.

P.S. Another one is suture kits. It's attractive to imagine you can stitch up a wound and keep on trucking, but outside of hospital conditions, you may have just created an infection pocket. If you MUST self/field suture, know that you must rigorously clean the wound, debriding any solids (like sand, or metal fragments) out, and ensuring trapped fluids can drain away. All while maintaining sterility.

Really I'm giving medical "advice" of risks, not best practices. I'm highlighting consequences, not telling you what to do. Get trained, and if you need to do more "serious" stuff, know that you still very much need a hospital or at minimum, equipped higher level pro such as a doctor.

Federation speed is a serious backbone concern. It aligns with perceived reliability. If it seems like comments votes or posts aren't "going where they're supposed to" then people can lose faith in the platform
