I (46) was jokingly called a boomer by a 25ish at work and quitely told her I am GenX. Her reply was whats that? (An answer hilariously apt in a meta way) and she told me it to her it meant person with outdated opnion.

The opinion was me not wanting to use AI but rely on my own knowledge in an area I quite frankly am close to being an expert in. No dunning Kruger expert either.

And I am born august 79 so neither really gen x or millennial

"WHAT?"

This one got me laughing. One more obscure fact is that it has Norways only active volcano

The argument about birds is ignorant because of basic behaviour ecology. Arguing from Zahavis handicap hypothesis males display strength by giving themselves a handicap. Being highly visible, lumbered with pointless feathers.

Females are camouflaged since they often are the ones on the nest.

First season on Parks and Rec is not good. Redid the concept and one character season 2 and was awesome season 3 onwards

The Ford Mustang Mach-E seems very nice as well

Not me but years ago the inorganic lab at my uni was tasked with measuring heavy metals in whale fat and did what they normally did back then to disolve test materials. Mix nitric acid and hydrocloric acid in some heavy duty pure quartz reagent tubes, put in sample and microwave.

Well. Turns out mixing triglyceride (fat) with nitric acid and HCl as a catalyst makes nitroclyserine. And what does that do in a confined space and microwaved

It turns expensive heavy duty quartz tubes into expensive quartz dust and a fucked microwave.

HF is a weak acid but extremely complex binding. If you spill it on skin, it will react with any Ca in your body and FUCK.YOU.UP! Always have plenty of water with Ca to rinse with and Ca containing "lotion" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrofluoric_acid_burn?wprov=sfla1

It is also fun as you can get really interesting results. I wanted to make a coffee cup with no bottom and put some in a cup and placed the cup in Ca-water. What happened was it removed the glazing and made a cup with slight leak as liquid permiates the clay.

Yeah, lets hear you out when the residental house next door has new people in every week treating it as a hotel. Think of the average hotel guest you have experienced? Yeah that one EVERY week.

Luckily my municipalityv/(Norway) will strike down hard on zoning violations if you run a commercial operation in a residential area.

The initial idea was brilliant. Occasionally renting out a room in you house/flat. Or renting out a few weeks when you are yourself on vacation. But now that it's businesses buying up housing and running them as hotels

By contrast, Airbnb has said the World Cup is to be "the biggest hosting event" in its history."

When you have an unregulated marketplace like AirBnB the legitimate businesses will loose. AirBnB rentals destroys neighborhoods and kills hotels

Guessing this is a Belgium (Flemish) vs. Netherland joke.

Like Norway jokes about Swedes, and every other random neighboring countries you care to mention

Remeber the head of the network at my university told me that he once was contacted by someone from a US LEA about how someone with an IP from the student housing had said something threatening about then US president George Bush Jr. and wanted information.

He told them that US law doesn't apply in Norway, and that they had to go through proper channels by the Norwegian police and court system to get that information.

Seems they can get the necessary 2/3 of the 199 seats to start righting the changes done by Orban

Have anyone tried to set the game in Europe? The grand conspiracy would still work. I figured it would be straightforward to find agencies that could be used for agents as all countries have armed forces, law enforcement, and intelligence organizations. You could add other organisations like CERN and ESA too, perhaps BAE and the like.

The main challenge would be how to overcome jurisdiction as Europe isnt federated and few operative agencies have presedencd over national agencies. And that Europe has a very different culture regarding weapons.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Four mechs down (lemmy.world)
submitted 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) by Frostbeard@lemmy.world to c/battletech@lemmy.world

We played a game to brush up on the rules. 6000BV trying to stay in ca. 3025-3049.

He did not have time to prepare so went with four shooters-8A (all proxies) I went Battlemaster-1Gb, Black Knight-6b-KNT, Catapult-1C and my one stray into clan era with a Wraith-1.

Thanks to some seriously unlucky dice all four of his mech fell down thanks to one getting two crits in CT, two taking >20 damage and one missed kick. All failed pilot checks...

Never seen that before. Edit: we did play fast and loose since we were relearning rules and the LGS was closing soon.

In Norway are not blessed with many gamestores that actually carry BT stuff. Since we are not in the customs union ordering from other countries can often increase the price by quite a lot since we have to pay VAT on shipping and charge for custom clearance.

See that one local store have the Tactical Operation Books (Advanced Rules and Advanced units and equipment) but the image on the store are the fourth (Rules) and first printing (units). I am going there this sunday to see for myself, but are first printings still usable. See that the current ones are sixt printing for both.
