I've noticed that as well. I remember once while walking the dog I came across an Indian guy and his kid. I assume the kid wasn't born in India because when it saw my dog the kid's face lit up with excitement, but before the kid could even take one step towards me the dad grabbed him and with wide eyes was saying "he is scared of dogs, he is scared of dogs!". I was like... Ok dude, I've got my dog on a tight leash, I'm just walking by. I'll try not to scare your... Kid... anymore.

The real issue is "Hole" is not desctiptive enough for a clear answer. A straw has one "Through Hole". If you dig a hole in the ground you have one "Blind Hole".
You can do quite a bit with your pay "pre tax". Fund your retirement 401k, fund your healthcare plans HSA/FSA, fund child care dependant plan, vision, dental, life insurance... If I said my income was only what hits my bank account then i would be understating my income by quite a bit.
Really good points. I was only thinking of the structure of the concrete... Sea life growth is a whole other ball game!
There are 2000 year old Roman concrete piers that are still just hanging out in sea water. So it's possible if you find the right mix.
