the red flags are waving. Wtf do you mean TWELVE YEARS LATER? Side note, that too is pretty thoroughly taught by society, especially these days. And there are tons of people, particularly overly prudish religious couples, who dont figure it out and have to have someone explain to them which hole they are supposed to be trying.

"Goo goo gaa gaa I want to have power over others" is no one's first sentence. Its an idea you have to learn at some point

People arent born seeking power. That is an idea they get at a certain point. Why? Can we not nuture people away from this path?

I love AOC, but i dont think she should run for president in her first eligible election. I dont think the country will be ready for her yet. That said, she'd still have my vote.

My Samsung induction oven and cook top is my favorite appliance. I fucking hated my old gas stove, not worth the steel it was made with. Induction cooks faster, more evenly, and im not killing myself and family on the fumes anymore. I don't have to turn the knobs just right to ignite a flame. Never using a gas stove again in my damn life.

Evil is measured in elected republicans. The more there are, the more evil the world experiences

Wind and photovoltaic have nothing to do with water

Im 28, ive known that im non binary for about 8 years. I dont experience much dysphoria so I havent thought much about any kind of transition, outside of facial hair removal. But lately, ive been thinking it would be really euphoric to have some modest mommy milkers. Has anyone here done a small amount of transitioning to achieve tiny titties? Or if you were endowed with a small chest by your first puberty, are there any thoughts you feel would be good for me to know?

If there is a readily accessible hydrocarbon to metabolize, life will evolve a way to metabolize it. Bacteria, fungi, and even some insects have already shown scientists they have figured out how to do this with certain types of plastic. Where does this lead?

One great thing this leads to is an eventual future where microplastics are cleaned up by the tiny organisms beneath our notice. Yay the pollution will clean itself up. Unfortunately, that also means that those hydrocarbons will be broken down, turned into CO2 or Methane, added to the atmosphere. Will this be a significant amount? I am unable to answer.

More startlingly, the other conclusion i draw is that all plastic in the world will someday be food for bacteria, mold, and grubs. Look around and note where you see plastic. It holds our food, it is the siding on some houses, it could be your building's insulation, it is the insulation on the wires in your house and outside. It holds your car together to varying degrees. It is the structure of many decks, benches, mobility aides etc.

Someday, these items will all be eaten slowly, or perhaps quickly. When will this begin in force? When will it affect our daily lives and health? Will we be able to prepare?

The economics of running fossil fuel infrastructure rely on having an economy of scale. As that scale decreases, the cost efficiency will plummet, leading the public sector to abandon them, most likely. We will either need to nationalize some of these things and run them at a loss as the sunsetting happens, or people will be left behind on the old fuels they can no longer access.

Don't be a harm increaser SMH

Host David Roberts speaks to Bruce Friedrich about how fake meat, plant based or lab grown, can reduce our land use substantially, reduce emissions substantially, and end or reduce the cruelty of animal agriculture. Notably, Friedrich contends that fake meats could end up on a learning curve to bring down the price of these meat alternatives to be cheaper than the real stuff. Much in the same way that we got better at making solar panels and flat screen TVs to the point where those items are magnitudes cheaper than they were just 10 years ago.

Friedrich, a vegan himself, chooses to lump plant based imitations together with the more controversial (but possibly more marketable) lab grown animal tissues for purposes of conversation, particularly when it comes to the economics.

Note, this is primarily an environmental tech podcast. And while the host, David Roberts, wishes he had it in him to go vegan, he has had to settle for reducitarian as he, like many, is weak. Much of the conversation is through the environmental lense, but the content is still valuable to this community.

Yes. For more details, read or listen to content on the other side of that link.

Host David Roberts speaks with guest, environmental scientist Dr Sarah Kapnick. They discuss the overall status of the globe with regards to climate with a level of steadiness that is hard to find. Dr Kapnick is able to communicate effectively the complexities of the topic without downplaying the severity nor inducing overwhelming panic.
