I've been boycotting Amazon since 2004. Waiting for everybody else to see it too. ... See it yet?!?? Everybody?!??

Are you sure?

Or is it more about dispelling it?

Even just the preceding omitted portion of the line that you replied to on the same line as (~ lol. oh boy), showed:

This is no concern to those who can steer minds of masses.

This is vastly distinct from how when I was "Just Doing My Job"[TM], and the intent would be to have you completely oblivious to ploys afoot, and to have you believe without question, just presume as normal, all the associations we'd be implanting without your awareness, to shift your perceptions, your preferences, your prejudices, and of course, ultimately, your purchases.

It's the difference between Penn&Teller showing you not only there is a trick, but how it's being done to you [or at least, so goes the pedagogical aspiration], and a conman not even pretending to be a magician, just tricking you out of your wealth, and having you be so tricked, you're even thankful for it. A really effective conman, an advertiser, who was really "good" at their job, may even manage to have you attack anyone who tries to get you out of the con, because they got you so identified with it, any critique, any questioning, gets seen as an existential threat.

The ignorance that dies, is not you.

^Is a great line to help remember, and to return to curiosity any time slipping to a place where different perspectives seem threatening and in need of being attacked again.

It's an ongoing "eternal vigilance" kind of thing, here in a sea of misinformation, where everybody's a shill.

So, yeah. I'm ex-advertiser, in so far as I've utterly relinquished any aspect of a career in it, since that first (and last) TV advert, that while I was making, I watched a Bill Hicks VHS over and over (the one with that "anybody here work in advertising or marketing" bit I linked above), wearing it out to snow, getting maybe a dozen doses a day of that bit. But not at all deluded to think that's it. It's a constant presence... that miasma that we're all swimming in, that normalises the hard sell, the con, the grift, ... the convincing. Now, I mmmmmuch much much more prefer the idea we all get epistemologically astute, wise to the con. It's easier to con, than to de-con. But ever worth striving for a world where people are honest, can spot tricks and psychological maladies, and can even then offer remedies... and then we can expedite mending this world, far easier, without the total abandon to corruption as is and have been for too long.

the argument against direct action for fear of justifying the actions already being done against us

... ? Implying I've made such an argument, in your interpretation of what I wrote?

Whooh. That's so far a mess in fallacies so far removed from what I wrote, that will be a brandolini's burden and a half to tidy up. Where did you pick up that idea from? It's so contrary to what I was saying, this implicit accusation seems like some kind of abuse of cunningham's law, in its nonsequitur, its strawman.

If that's not the intended implication, then, I agree. (And just wonder why it was raised there like that.)

But okay, lets go back to...

first off all floride is for the public good

Fluoride, has many studies done on it and its effects. I'm wondering, to make such a simple one-sided blanket statement, are you rejecting the evidence of effects to the contrary? Or are you using "public good" in a way that betrays each individual for "the greater good" where it's good that people are chemically lobotomised to be easier to be controlled by a centralised government? Or maybe you have seen some study that is so compelling it undermines the claims of effects observed elsewhere? And what of the various historical documents showing plans and intents to use fluoride as I've described its effects? ... Who's defining this "public good", that contravenes what doctors, other healers (e.g. nurses) and communities were noticing? Weston A Price springs to mind for one. A book or two on that, past the name-calling that gatekeepers do to try to keep you away from such "quacks", can be quite an eye opener. Among the many surprising things, are how there's not evidence for a dental benefit, evidence of a dental harm, and how the industry just wrangled itself another market to keep itself alive. Mercury's story's similar. Along with a lot of big pharma. Interestingly the regulatory body for the pharmaceutical industry in USA is a chemistry regulatory body that was a front set up by the chemistry industry. When you become aware of things like that, it's hard to let statements slip by without a thousand questions springing to mind. Because what if that's not said as a satire mocking the absurdity... ... I guess it gets worse depending on the interpretation beyond the poor punctuation (~ and spelling ~ not important)... "First off all, fluoride is for the public good", or, "First off, all fluoride is for the public good"?

the fact the republicans have been talking about removing it should be more then enough to show it’s not out there for graft

idgaf what those crooks are up to, as far as pertains to my own epistemology; my own ability to figure out what's going on. With puppets of either side, they can terrorise people in groupthink, terrified of not being sufficiently in their in-group, desperate not to be "the other", and so they accept the package deal of the entire groupthink, and run from anything [even suggested to be] of the other groupthink. And so the psyop keeps everybody who's still susceptable enough in the tyranny-tacking totalitarian-tiptoe, with one side loudly offered 1 freedom they care about while two they don't care so much about are taken away, then the same's done on the other side, 1 placation personal freedom for 2 economic freedoms, 1 placation economic freedom for 2 personal freedoms, and up we ratchet to the top of the political compass. I'm done falling for that.

if they for some reason feel they needed to justify any of this, they would just manufacture that justification. but we are currently past the point the government needs justification for any of this.

I'd say we're past the point of getting snagged by that, and we're at the point where the op asks the questions it asks. This is radical mends o'clock. We've left it rather late to mend the worsening situation, and so now more desperate and likely ill-conceived efforts to attain remedy will be sought, especially as more extents of the corruption are seen and there are repeated hopes dashed as avenues of remedy in the system are revealed hijacked and corrupted too.

It's glorious, that the awareness is now so much more widespread and normal everyday, like it's no grand proclamation now. Now we generally all just know, they manufacture their justifications. ... This is not what democracy looks like. This is what the result looks like from letting government suspend democracy for an emergency. Every colour of false flag catastrophic emergency. The psychopathic circlejerk clique who crave power, the well meaning who get corrupted by the process of getting "power", have no empathy, no ethical moral quandry to hold them back. At all. And ... Let's see if I can remember how it goes... as one middling insider was caught on camera in (irrc) the [20]00s [even before Rockerfella's 2010 planning document that mentioned operation lockstep] saying "when the terrorist thing wears off, we're going to have people running scared of a disease without symptoms", and then there was the pandemic thing, and also in the list of contingency plans of mass distraction to run along side the PNAC global hegemony plan ("7 countries in 5 years" hah!, that was their "two weeks" future-faking bread-crumbing dog-whistle ~ nice to be able to name the ploys), there's economic collapse (always a classic), environmental disaster (weather warfare tech, banned in the 1970s, hah), ... I think I'm forgetting a couple... And then the big two... the penultimate, nuclear war, and the finale, alien invasion. ... So now this knowledge is out, and we've observed them incrementing through the plan... we won't fall for it this next time, huh? ... Easy to be deluded more people are astute to the issues, from inside an echo chamber. It's surprising how many people not only do not know, they do not want to know, such is the shape of the conditioning, that it's a horror too much to face. Your carer, is your abuser.

if we had it your way there would never be a time or event that would justify fighting back and as such your opinion is worthless

BWHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA. XD

CONSTANTLY! NOW! ALWAYS! NEVER RELENTING!

I do not know where you got the idea that A, you need wait for a time or event, B any implication of no justification for fighting back was made, C, fighting's only in one form (riot) or, D, that fighting itself is the only solution, E that any of that made sense and wasn't just succumbing to pointless infighting.

This is no time for falling for pitchforks vs torches.

Atop the castle's turret, an advisor to a troubled king overlooking the sea of angry people, says: "Oh, you don't need to fight them - you just need to convince the pitchfork people that the torch people want to take away their pitchforks."

And what would a riot serve?

I know it's murky at the "top", but that's no reason to turn on those who've a cookie more, when someone's hoarding the cookie making machine and the billions of cookies they make from it.

What's left of small businesses? They'll be pushed towards siding with the corrupt state, for protection, from a riot.

The corporations? They're already usurping states and their police. Will they be harmed by a riot? I doubt it. Have a go. See how well they've planned for it, and even promoted it and provoked it...

Maybe there are more tools available to us, to our toolboxes, than just the immediate reflexive cathartic futility.

But sure... if we all naruto run together...

It will of course, hurt, and that's a fantasy, that if ever achieved, would be redundant to attempt.

We will get better ideas how to remedy this, when we stop taking their poison that makes us dumb and reactive, so we're no longer easily controlled and easily pointed to as the problem.

(And... I thought I mentioned this in the comment being replied to there, but I guess it was in another recent post of mine somewhere... )

As I recall, in Nichiren Buddhism, of all the lower states of being, it's only anger that can be used for good. So if in a lower state of being, maybe anger can help. Wield it well.

... not like

and as such your opinion is worthless

shooting yourself in the foot, sowing division, conjuring enemies among allies, opposaming yourself into being the oppressor, undemocratically devaluing your fellow human kind...

Maybe we could turn mendwards?

... Might be handy to get some tools of mending, in that toolbox... otherwise, you'll just be hammering your allies any time they've an issue, until you've no allies left but the psychopathic circlejerk who had you frog-boil yourself, killed you with your compassion, contorted while your cognition was disabled in the moments of fear they managed to induce in you. It's so handy knowing about these ploys they do. From this more nuanced and nasty stuff, to the easier stuff to get, like "association". First step to recognising a trap, is awareness of its existence. "It must be a trap." "Then why are you still going!?" "I want to find out what kind of a trap it is."

Some say fight, in the broad sense, like in the broader sense of struggle against oppression. Some say it more acutely. Some get one thrown out with the other. Beware Embrace Extend Extinguish ploys. Beware inducements against your better principles. They invest billions and trillions in perverting your mind. So, oh yeah, I'm never not in the fight. But fight? I'd never let myself get played like that again. Also... It's way more powerful when you refuse to use their means, no longer affirming the validity of their means, now they're the ass-hole, attacking the innocant, and the whole crowd turns on them. Back into the pub. My exp.

One point,

When do we riot?

Riot?

That's the solution?

I thought that was the problem they attempt to provoke in some of us to have more of us react in favour of their solution of more police, and better armed police, and more unaccountable police, and more rules and censorship.

There are more of us than them

This is no concern to those who can steer minds of masses. [Speaking as an ex-"one of those".]

How

Know anyone in the compartmentalised super secret special projects groups who have access to the emancipatory technology that would obsolete the enshitifying fake economy and all the manufactured scarcity and dependence on rentiers abusing us at expense of the healthiness of the environment, if released, and who could let that genie out of the bottle, eliminating the economic duress that impedes freedom, restoring each our ability to be worldly astute polymaths in the making, rather than slaves in training? Know anyone like that? Maybe they could help expedite mends. If you do not know that you know anyone like that, you could just meditate, and emit that kind of radical loving bold kindness, perchance that works, like the Chicago experiment (where meditators supposedly managed to produce a marked reduction in crime in the city), and through some kind of morphic resonance or psychic entrainment or quantum entanglement or luck or whatever, maybe those in the positions of power, will pick up that wave shape of goodness aimed at them, and it will cut through the loud chorus of most else aiming judgements at them that only reaffirm our worst fears about what they're like.

... Could work. At least as one easy ongoing part of a broader approach.

Maybe helping people stop being poisoned by mercury (madness), aluminium (apathy), fluoride (incompetence that has you eager to obey authority), excitotoxins (lowered cognitive fidelity, more stubborn and emotionally volatile), and so on, may help nudge things in an easier direction mendwards. May even push past some healthy tipping points... that may even help us sublimate from kali yuga to satya yuga. Many eyes make all bugs shallow.

Best part... No matter how dire any prognosis, defy it. Defy the dire prognosis. We can still mend this.

It's just a ride...

Reminds of the moments when paying for fuel, and SUV drivers waiting next in the queue weep when they see how much I pay, as a microbus driver. Yeah. I have double the usable space in my vehicle, and am paying less than half for fuel.

[–] Digit@lemmy.wtf 0 points 1 month ago

Tragic. Shows we never know when. And a little irony there too, in how we've lost the chap who contributed so much to preparation [and so recent too] for what to do if we lose that other chap.

So there's hope yet for me being able to tidy up decades of mess around here.

I got a new thinkpad with double the ram, because I kept running out, even when telling mpv to not cache so much, with over a dozen paused playlists... Now I have over three dozen paused playlists.

But, I'm getting through it.

Been catching up with interesting happenings from April.

Just for fun and discovery.

Same as for distros and DE/WM.

Share your own, as an image, or just a written list. :)

Mine:

;) I didn't want to wait and see if @misty@lemmy.zip would make a text editor one. So I just made my own. :)

^ The Show

v The Tell

The Fetch

On the left pane, I issued

for i in (brl list | egrep -v bedrock) ; echo $i | toilet -f future -t $argv | lolcat ; strat -r $i neofetch ; end

(That's fish btw.)

(And yes, neofetch, because I don't yet know how to get fastfetch to respect the strata.)

IIRC, the details on this, a couple years old system since last reinstall of the OS: Hijacked MX, imported AntiX and Artix, fetched the gentoo, devuans and void... package counts not too misleading about what's getting used most, once looking past which came with a fatload preinstalled (MX & AntiX), and which split their packages more causing a bigger number (all the ones based on debians and devuans). Void's my first go-to for any package. Gentoo for when I want to get fussy (e.g. for Gimp or Emacs), the devuans generally for stability, and for what I can't get from void or gentoo. And artix just for the AUR... which I'm currently on pause from using, after being extra careful to gut out anything that could even be remotely afflicted by the recent several bursts of malware attacks. But, besides there being more devuan than gentoo this time (only the one active gentoo stratum? :O), this is a fairly typical daily driver setup for me... Frankly, it has not changed much for about a decade or more. I've got it dialled in, how I like it. With my 4 cornerstones. Void, Gentoo, Devuan, Artix.

The Font

And, before anyone has a [love, or hate] fit about the font (~ 6pixel in st, just for the screenshot to fit it all in ~ my eyes are not that good any more, bigger (12pix I think) in the date, top right), it's called nztt, and is my fave one of many I made a while ago, as part of what had became known as dbtfc ("Digit's Big Tiny Font Collection"). Maybe there are a silent indifferent majority, but most of what I hear are the reactions at the extremes, to nztt. It's genuinely my daily driver, most places. ... Not on web pages though... nztt's designed to maximise vertical space while still being comfortably readable (at least to my own peculiarity of dyslexia), and thus breaks the layout of a lot of websites expecting letters twice as tall with 10 times the vertical space wasted. It's ttf, not a true pixel font, but it is designed to best fit at 6, 12, 18, etc pixels size. Largely inspired by "clean" font, old 80s screen fonts, and my other explorations into tiny fonts.

The Rest

I'm still in XFCE on this T495 Thinkpad. I had intended to switch to using my wminizer script, populated with a standard 2 wmrotate scripts, the first populated with just xmonad, dwm, and herbstluftwm, and the other, the same, but also with openbox.

But I've always had things on here, never found a nice moment to interrupt things. ... The irony. This would be a non-issue with wminizer. But I've not yet done the first restart of X11 to get it running wminizer. So [even though I've already changed the config, ready to go] I'm stuck in that predicament that I wrote wminizer to be able to solve. XD

[PS, I'm burned out and left my repos in a terrible janky way, even by my scruffy standard... like the tagline on my codeberg profile says: "My stuff's scruffy. Don't use it."... ... though, if you don't mind fiddling around past my jank... wminizer is availing a very cool ability to have: Can change your wm without restarting X11, keeping everything running, and, can change the list of which wm you can switch to, too, keeping everything running uninterupted, without restarting X11.]

Nothing much fancy done to the XFCE. Didn't intend to stay. Made the bar nice and tight, how I like it. Only in recent days, (after months... years(!??) lingering in XFCE), I moved it to the top, to try, to see if that would be less annoying, fewer times of its pop ups from mouse overs on the taskbar buttons getting in the way of the things i want to click (e.g. active erc buffers listed in my mode-line in emacs). Should be fewer things up top that I'd want to be clicking where it shows. Mostly just the window bar there.

The Nothing To See Here.

And so, that's why there's nothing much to see here. In the typical eye-candy unix porn sense. But... the eagle eye'd may have spotted the one tid-bit of show-and-tell that may excite some, perhaps as much as 1-10% as much as it excites me, highlighted in the right pane. ... two things in a way. 1st, there's bpt! And 2nd (the main excitement for me), in bpt, there's the htop fork, with the stratum column!

A few years back (I forget when... 2019?) I had been musing various ways (in my own janky limited-abilities-and-knowledge way) to get strata info on various system info tools [[[(see doodle drop down example)]]], and mentioning my own fledgling flailing failing efforts. And then paradigm surprised me one day, (iirc) simply saying "Happy Christmas", and presented a link to a version of htop (that he had made) that now had the stratum column. :) After a while, my continued use of it became contingent on me maintaining its old deps manually (~ and certainly, any efforts of mine to maintain patching for newer htop and deps, failed early fast and hard). And eventually, I failed managing to even maintain it... and so, for a few months or so, I'd become without htop with a stratum column. And so went back to trying to hack up my own solutions...

llm doodled another thing like that recently in the interim without it

function psbr2
    # 1. Snapshot the entire output exactly once
    set -l ps_data (ps aux)

    # 2. Print header with the new column
    echo "$ps_data[1] STRATUM"

    # 3. Process each process line
    for line in $ps_data[2..-1]
        # Split by whitespace, automatically collapsing multiple spaces
        set -l fields (string split -n ' ' $line)
        set -l pid $fields[2]
	# Resolve stratum for this specific PID
        set -l strat (brl which $pid 2>/dev/null || echo "-")
	# Append the stratum to the original line

    echo -n "$line" ; set_color red ; echo " $strat" ; set_color normal
    end
end

Though, true to my ways of janky code, that runs slow.

[Actually... If I'd put my mind to it more, I'd have done better than the llm there, I see now, looking at that again. Jeez they do silly things. ... anyways... moving on... no spoons to mend it now. Code's spoon expensive. Rambling this drivel's fine. I am obeying burnout recovery protocol with this. Honest.]

Anyway, that's just to give the gist, of some system info tool getting strata info added to it.

and then came paradigm again, now in 2026, with bpt this time, populated with... htop! (and 9 other packages, but meh, the htop with stratum column's the real highlight among the libs and other standard boring things).

So if your system is stratified, that may be handy for you. :)

That's the highlight here for me, main reason (besides boredom (while supposed to be resting from burnout)?) for posting:

htop with stratum column is back!

(But shshsh. Still linux's best kept secret. Hehe. You know what I mean if you know. If not [(or even if in the know, back to)]... ooh, look at the novel autumnal colour theme for the terminal, and, either "That font is base/sick/thegoat/wild/cool/snappy" or "Yeurgh. Do you actually use that font!? What's wrong with you!".)

Though this [intentionally buried lede] is exciting to me, it probably isn't exciting for anyone else, certainly not the majority... but isn't that the greatest glory of unix porn? Each their own.

... I better stop proof reading this before I keep adding more so much that it gets long. :3

3rd time lucky finding a home for this?

(Leaving the former re-post's unnecessarily long preface and refutation diatribe intact, because, lazy, and posterity and such... the bold bit's maybe rousing enough to be worth a quick read. But really, this post's just for the meme pointing at the idea, critiquing all the "disclosure" hubbub (likely even more now there's a movie of that name), with the simple contrast to "provision", revealing mere "disclosure" still does not emancipate us, merely reveals those who've hoarded the means of production have indeed hoarded far more than they let on, and still they're in the position of power over us to continue to agnotologically abuse us. ... Or at least, that's the kind of thing it speak to me with. ... Maybe others don't catch on to the same depth and significance.)

[Reposting from an unfathomnably-reasoned "not political" removal from political memes @ lemmy world. (see my spoiler expansion for my reply refuting that). Political Memes seemed the best place to post it, but they removed it ("not political" ~wat). I hope [re]posting this here is at least seen as relevant to politics. Sorry it's a mere meme, but, I hope the relevant depth behind it can be readily seen, and it's acceptable here. [Edit: It fits with this community's "Posts must be related to Conflict, Politicians, Nation-states, Electoralism, or International Relations". If that's not immediately apparent how, I can elaborate and reason on that extensively (and have already, in the spoiler copy of the reasoning offered to mods of the politicalmemes community).]]

Over 20 years ago, patent office whistle blower Tom Valone already disclosed that by the year 2000 there had already been over 3000 free energy device patents, secreted.

Disclosure? That’s your political aspiration and protest?

Lets aim a little higher.

Lets avail and provision everybody with the best.

Star Trek replicators, interstellar travel, and more.

Free energy tech + energy-to-matter transfer tech = they can print gold from nothing.

No cull necessary. No resource wars necessary. No mineral mining necessary. No combustion necessary. We never needed rockets.

Follow the tech arc from Michael Faraday through to Nikola Tesla (and the many less loud and showy between)…

Spaceships for everybody.

Removed Post Agnotology VS Emancipatory Technologies reason: not political. also, a little conspiracy based (which in itself breaks no rules)

Not political?

Wat.

How so? I do not understand.

The socio-economic implications of disclosure [or even, provisioning] of suppressed technologies that can emancipate people is obviously very much in the realm of politics. Or is emancipation no longer considered a political issue? If so, that's beyond my fathoming.

There are plenty of politicians who talk about disclosure.

Even one who was most famous because of his involvement in emancipation. (Abraham Lincoln)

And many political philosophies are all up in the idea of provisioning resources, or availing the best to each and all.

a little conspiracy based (which in itself breaks no rules)

???

I... I don't even know where to begin with that portion of the reason this post was supposedly removed, according to the modlog [... yet I can still see it and reply...? Evidently I do not yet understand how Lemmy works.].

Is that use of "conspiracy" in the ratcheted newspeak of the psyop phrase "conspiracy theory" used to dissuade scrutiny?

As in presumed spurious falsehood misinfo? Of the whole idea that there are suppressed technologies?

If so, it may serve you [whoever attempted to remove this post] very well to look into the patent system, and agnotology. The patent system has several levels by which technologies that can be of benefit to each and all are suppressed. [For brief general outline] From corporations [1] buying patents, [2] buying patent extension rules through corruption of the legal system [and political systems], to sit on patents for technologies that would compete and even obsolete their cash-cow technologies, and even [3] outright secreting patents (e.g. under the spurious reasoning of "national security") [as highlighted by the first line of the post, about a patent office whistleblower's reveal]. The agnotology industry is vast. There are several good books [(~ I presume they're good~ I've not read them all yet)] about agnotology, the study of the creation of ignorance. When something gets classified to a higher level of secrecy, which seems to tend to happen on an over-cautious reflex, it almost never goes back the other way. [Edit: A couple good quotes about that [1]]

Further, even the choice of using Geordie LaForge from Star Trek TNG was due to the political implications.

So, given all that reasoning, surely it's easy to understand how I'm confounded by the appearance of this post in the modlog, with the reasoning given.

Removed Post Agnotology VS Emancipatory Technologies reason: not political. also, a little conspiracy based (which in itself breaks no rules)

What part of it, at all, was "not political"?

Disclosure, political issue, spoken of by politicians and other advocates and opponents.

Resource provisioning, political issue, arguably the core issue of all socio-economics.

Emancipation, political issue, of deep historical and contemporary importance.

Star Trek, Geordie La Forge, chosen because of the political insinuations/implications, that tie in with the message.

Whistleblowing about the patent system, a deeply politically entwined system, and a directly political action.

"Lets aim a little higher." & "Lets avail and provision everybody with the best." etc, an encouragement of a higher political aspiration.

"Free energy tech + energy-to-matter transfer tech = they can print gold from nothing." ... again, very obviously has political implications. Radically different economic system, where even gold can be printed like fiat.

"No cull necessary. No resource wars necessary. No mineral mining necessary. No combustion necessary. We never needed rockets." Political issue, political issue, political issue, political issue, political issue. Right to life, peace, environmentalism & resource management, environmentalism and right to roam freely without polluting rents, and freedom to leave and not be deceived to be kept down as a serf or slave, respectively. Just to keep it short about how each part of this is political. Can elaborate far longer on each part.

"Follow the tech arc from Michael Faraday through to Nikola Tesla (and the many less loud and showy between)…" again, highlights the broader poliltical implications here, with Nikola Tesla chosen as example with famous political implications with his idea of powering the world wirelessly for free at health affirming frequencies, and industry tycoons rejected his idea, with the famed line "where would we put the meter?", and Michael Faraday chosen as example to show how far back this goes, and to evoke curiosity of what and who, doing what, lays between these two towering examples of science and innovation that can (and has) changed the world, and radically shifted politics and empowerment of people and power alike.

Spaceships for everybody.

Highest political aspiration?

So, again, I'm baffled. How did this get flagged as not political? Every single bit of it is deeply political.

A-ha! I've always said, considering the mushroom is inside out compared to us, we are inside the mushroom's digestive system, and its brain.

The idea for this post started today when I saw in #emacs-til on libera.chat:

  • [2026-01-17 22:30:19] TIL emacs is just not for old boomers lol
  • [2026-01-17 22:31:53] also for younger boomers
  • [2026-01-17 22:33:10] haha that's me!
  • [2026-01-17 22:33:17] lil baby baby boomer
  • [2026-01-17 23:25:18] the Youth of Today love Emacs
  • [2026-01-17 23:25:29] I asked one of them back in... uh...
  • [2026-01-17 23:25:31] 1991?

So I did a websearch for the youngest emacs user, and, the websearch results couldn't help but all be about how old emacs users are.

So I ask Lemmy...

Who is the youngest emacs user?

[And no, before anyone thinks otherwise, that image is not real. I just put that together for whimsical illustration, from an image search or 3, with a relevant comment, an image from an article about a 2 year old who self-taught the alphabet, and an image of an emacs welcome screen pasted together with the help of the GIMP.]

Who is the youngest emacs user?

Anyone younger than 40? In 20s? Teens?? Younger??!

Rough idea made on a whim. Constructive and critical feedback welcome. Better memes depicting the idea even more welcome.

Text: Malarchy masquerades as Anarchy, to look good, and make Anarchy look bad.

For one real world example among many, to consider stop falling for: Those palates of bricks that big money conveniently deliver to bank/capitalism protests.

Heh, I wonder how "over the target" this is, and gets heavily downvoted by agents and unwitting assets not liking the reveal or invite to scrutiny. ;)

PS, While I'm at it... Some relevant quotes:

"Governments have always used the pretext of ‘public safety’ to suppress dissent. They create the very chaos they claim to fight, so they can pose as saviors." -- Errico Malatesta

"The history of the State is the history of violence, but it is also the history of lies—lies told to the people to make them accept their own enslavement." -- Peter Kropotkin

"Every act of government violence is wrapped in the flag and sold as patriotism. The State’s greatest trick is making people believe that their oppressors are their protectors." -- Emma Goldman

"States don’t just respond to crises—they need crises. They need enemies, real or invented, to justify their existence. The ‘war on terror’ is just the latest version of a very old game." -- David Graeber

"The first revolutionist is the State itself. It revolts against its own principles, against its own lies, to better enslave us under new disguises." -- Mikhail Bakunin

"The most effective way to neutralize a radical idea is to take its symbols, drain them of meaning, and sell them back to the people as a commodity." -- David Graeber

"The worst enemies of anarchy are not its open opponents, but those who pretend to be anarchists while serving the interests of the powerful." -- Errico Malatesta

"Beware those who wrap themselves in the red flag to hide their betrayal." -- Gustave Lefrançais

"They fear our ideas, so they steal our symbols." -- Anonymous

"The State’s favorite anarchist is a fake one."

"Real anarchy threatens power. Fake anarchy is power."

"They wear our symbols like costumes… but their script is written by the State

"The State is nothing but a vast machine for the oppression of the masses, a machine that lives on lies and thrives on the ignorance of the people." -- Mikhail Bakunin

"Fascism and capitalism are not opposites—they are partners in the same crime. One gives the orders, the other provides the guns. Both rely on your fear, your confusion, and your obedience. Do not believe their lies. Do not obey their commands. Think for yourself, act for yourself, and trust only in solidarity." -- Errico Malatesta

This was bad enough with "just people"... Now these years A.I. contributes to this churn... I hope the fediverse never gets "successful" enough to attract "influencer" bounties. Fediverse keeps internet alive... for now.

PS, In a sea of misinformation, everybody's a shill. [That there's attacks on Candice Owens is beside the point.]

not my left (lemmy.wtf)
submitted 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) by Digit@lemmy.wtf to c/leftymemes@lemmy.dbzer0.com

I love these three socialist lemmies. So I'm posting this here. Not sure how well or how mixed a reception this will get here. Not sure if the right place to post it. Plausibly shall step on some toes (with the bottommost instance of "not my left") a bit. And I imagine there may be some responses nitpicking that 3 of the "not my left"s are more left than "my left" ~ to which I say, misses the point. Anyhoo... enjoy, or don't. I strive to protect your freedom to receive things however you wish. Love that bitch called interpretation. ;D But I do hope it sparks some interesting thought, discussion, and maybe even is a useful tool. At the very least, it'll help (a bit) to explain what I mean when I keep saying "not my left", to those who misrepresent the authoritarian left as "the left", or even really really misrepresent by calling the nowadays so-called "liberal" (left side of authoritarian right) as "the left".
