Duo's also on the app trend of year end reviews and wrap ups, so I thought I'd share mine. I kept up the habit, though I started doing the music lessons too as a break in language lessons all the time.

Also, just wtf is going on in the art department over there? Why is Duo's lil green butt featured so prominently?

I first heard Gamer Supps advertised on a Twitter shitpost account so I assumed it was a joke for a year or two. But no, it's a real company that sells processed snacks, energy drinks, and other assorted gruel to The Gamers™️, using extremely horny ads full of anime girls.

I still feel like it's 60% shitpost, it's such condescending marketing that I'm astounded it works. Honestly, I can't wait for other companies to catch on.

"You want to play games on this pc you simping goon? Install Windows 12 first, WinChan demands it of you, then purchase 3 crates of WinChan protein fluid to replenish the nutrients you jerked out while this ad was running. Do it sub, dommie mommie WinChan demands your tribute before allowing you to install more porn games."

Huh, never saw this one but in high school I had a dream just like this. I met a beautiful woman, perfect in every way, we got married had some kids, I even got some ways into middle age. Then, I was sitting in chair and noticed that my vision seemed... blurry at the edges, in a very "vignette filter" kind of way and I immediately knew I was dreaming. Woke up just as the existential collapse started. For several years after I'd try to remember her face, what our love had felt like, any of the details that had seemed so solid and tantalizing real for those few sleeping hours.

In retrospect, a lot like that Rick and Morty episode with the life simulator game. I wonder if one of the writers ever had that dream too? Brains are weird, and I haven't any dreams nearly that all encompassing since.

Same, once I saw the shoes the picture corrected itself (and i can't force myself to not see them now) but up until then it was like that duck/rabbit photo except both were.... something else.

Don't worry, once you get the job you'll discover that they lied about what the work is anyway. You thought the job was sitting quietly at a desk and solving little dev tasks. Actually that's 25% of the job, the rest is: 25% meetings where they make doing the little tasks harder, confusing, and miserable, 25% other tasks you aren't good at and that aren't part of your job, and the last 25% is more meetings about those other things. The ratios will adjust over time until only about 10% of your job is doing your job, and the other 90% is email and meetings.

I had wondered about how some things were done with the new episodes. I'm glad they released some documention and kept the standardization so that the rest of the broader Doom community can build off the new release.

I think this probably applies...

So Thief: The Dark Project (1999) and Thief 2: The Metal Age (2000), are a couple of classic stealth FPS games, proto-immersive-sims, and still some of my all time favorite games. They both use the Dark Engine, an in-house engine from the now defunt Looking Glass Studios, which also powered System Shock 2.

In 2010, the source code to a System Shock 2 port (for the dreamcast or ps2 iirc...) leaked online, and on 2012 someone used that code to create NewDark and TFix, patches to make these old games work on modern computers (and some bugfixes, support for HD, etc).

There are still updates regularly released for it too!

I must emphasize that these games are still sold on Steam, GOG, etc and this patch is essentially required for them to work. And these are hardly the only games like this, just the ones most personal to me. Retrogaming is built on the backs of unsung individual heroes who backwards-engineer, hack, patch, and mod their favorite games to keep them running for everyone long after the publishers have died or abandoned their work.

instructions unclear; adding rocks to brain for hard thinking

Updates:

Might be best for mods to lock this post at this point (is that a thing on Lemmy?) because this story is basically wrapped. The FBI says a bullet caused some ear damage. Maybe it was bullet shrapnel from a ricochet or something like that, but later photos show the teleprompters in-tact so it wasn't shards of glass from those. Trump's usage of the bandage (and the assassination attempt) as symbols and political tools has been discussed at length and I don't think conspiratorial thinking beyond that is very productive. Pete Souza took his own account down after getting a lot of harassment, so no further conspiracies are needed regarding X-formerly-known-as-Twitter at this time.

A photo of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump taken on Saturday without his ear bandage has sparked a wave of speculation.

The image, taken by Alex Brandon of the Associated Press on July 27 and shared by photojournalist Pete Souza on X, formerly Twitter, shows Trump walking up an airplane staircase with an apparently fully healed ear wound just weeks after he was shot with a high-powered rifle.

Souza, known for his tenure as the chief official White House photographer for Presidents Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama, posted Brandon's photo on his now-deactivated X account on Saturday, writing, "AP photo this morning. Look closely at his ear that was 'hit' by a bullet from an AR-15 assault rifle."

Souza's profile, @PeteSouza, which had over 200,000 followers, now reads, "This account doesn't exist, try searching for another," implying that he has deleted or deactivated it. If he had been banned, it would read, "Account suspended. X suspends accounts which violate the X rules."

Remember when Humble Bundle was actually a charity and not just a charity-themed storefront owned by IGN?

Well, technically owned by IGN, a subsidiary of Ziff-Davis, formerly J2 Global, formerly Ziff-Davis.

I'm sure firing what was left of the employees with any commitment to the concept of HB and folding the brand under the rest of your e-commerce verticle will have no further adverse effects on the quality or usability of HB as a service.

Thankfully, it's not the commentary I was afraid he'd offered. JB sounds spineless in this, it was a joke and an honest expression of the very real existential fear people feel towards Trump rule.

I fucking hate this. Trump gets on mic everyday to wish death on some innocent groups of people but we're fucking forbidden from joking about it towards him?

Edit: I hope everyone who downvotes me gets very peacefully and nonviolently re-educated.

Ashes: Hard Reset OST by John S. Weekley

I saw over the weekend that the soundtrack had been released ahead of the upcoming (!) prequel (‼️) to the amazing series of Doom mods. The Ashes series rules, play them if you haven't. The soundtracks also rule and I had the Afterglow OST in heavy rotation all last year.

This one is pretty good. Very heavy with callbacks to the previous OSTs and to the original Doom's music. "Romero Waiting for the Train" is particularly fun for it's mix-in of my favorite OG track. I can't wait to wander more post-apocalyptic subways to this groovy tune!
