Hei! Keep us informed.

[–] Alfredolin@sopuli.xyz 9 points 1 week ago

Here my homelab. I moved not too long ago and I am still lacking some furniture, so it's on the floor with cables lying wild. Does not look like much but it actually covers almost all my needs. I still need a VPS because of email ports and resident ISP not being compatible...

[–] Alfredolin@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I've seen that one before!

[–] Alfredolin@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 week ago

Wow!

When I'm rich I will also get a NAS/multiple drive enclosure (and fill it, hence the "rich" condition).

[–] Alfredolin@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 week ago

This sounds very familiar.

Did you use AI building this?

[–] Alfredolin@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago

It is. I've tested a couple other solutions but I've been staying with homepage for a while now. I am satisfied.

I have not been accurate. Here was the answer:

GitHub** (GitHub Support)

Hi there,
Β
Thank you for contacting GitHub Support.
Β
Our abuse detecting systems flagged your account because of the email address you used to register the account. Before we can remove the flag we need you to add and verify a personal, non-disposable, non-aliased email address.
Β
You can add an email address by following the steps here:
Β
https://docs.github.com/github/setting-up-and-managing-your-github-user-account/adding-an-email-address-to-your-github-account
Β
…and you can follow these steps to verify it:
Β
https://docs.github.com/github/getting-started-with-github/verifying-your-email-address#verifying-your-email-address
Β
Once more, we'll need you to remove the current email address from your account.
Β
To clarify, we don't need anything 'traceable' to you, feel free to use protonmail or tutanota etc. (just examples, we don't have any particular recommendation here) it just can't be a "throwaway" or temporary domain for security and deliverability reasons. You are also welcome to connect to GitHub using a VPN or TOR node if and as you wish.
Β
Let us know when you've completed these steps and we'll be happy to review your account again.

Github support,
Rio.

The alias was/is active, verified and verifiable, I even have TOTP and my fucking phone number on that account, I just checked... So no, thanks, I am not going to send you DNA samples.

[–] Alfredolin@sopuli.xyz 24 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Yeah and Github does not let you use an alias for the login email. For real I got shadowbanned (or something similar): I did not see any warning and could not do any search in a repo and noticed my issues went unanswered... because nobody could fucking see them. So I wrote to support and they told me to use a name.surname email address. I told them to fuck off and never logged in again.

Good reminder not to trust HR.

It was actually much easier than I expected since the mardown formatting came straight with the copy/paste!

I know, many advise against it. But it does not matter, I just want to try, not (yet) host my important e-mails.

So it seems that by default port 25 is blocked by the internet service provider(s?). So I asked my provider to open it, and they answered that as per traficom rule, port 25 is reserved for the ISP and the ISP only, not to be used by private consumers.

The customer service could only give me this link, which does not explain why this port or the others are blocked. I also lack the technical background to understand this decision.

Can someone explain to me? And are there ways around it without using a VPS? What is/are an association for the defense of digital rights here, that would have content in English?

Thank You!

edit: typo

Recently Jellyfin client was crashing under Garuda distro. Instead of doing proper troubleshooting I just deleted it via package manager but... I did not pay attention under what repo it was (AUR?) and could not find it anymore to reinstall it. Has it been removed from the repo? Who should I ask? I solved my problem by installing flatpak but somehow I would prefer to have it in an Arch/garuda repo.

Stoat (formerly known as Revolt) is a selfhostable, FOSS replacement for discord [Group chats and voice channels you can join any time].

Cool new name, however not as easy to use in other languages.

Voice chat is stil not officialy implemented.

Self-hosting there. Apparently nothing to do for you if you had already hosted before the name change.

The Android app has unfortunately disappeared (not been updated) on F-droid.

Edit: added short description for clarification

Find My Device

Project 'Nulide/findmydevice' was moved to 'fmd-foss/fmd-android'. Please update any links and bookmarks that may still have the old path.

Find My Device has moved (since V0.10, V0.12 as of writing) and if you are hosting the server yourself, you might have missed that and might be locked out of the website interface.

If you have autoupdates on FDroid for your client, maybe you did not see the info.

The post was a meme depicting a "lib" raging over Molotov-Ribbentrop pact in the top and quietly justifying Nazi collaboration of the Baltics/Ukraine/Finlande/Ukrainian insurgent army.

Text below was: "Average lib take when communism is involved".

To Which I answered:

" 'Ok so now its legitimate to invade these countries!' Average tankie."

Since .ml-users consider anyone outside their community a "lib" I felt I had the right to answer.

Anyway, my comment triggered an honest discussion AND was genuinely in the style of the post, so no I don't think it's fair.

For the curious, link to the post.

I'm working for a relatively big company. Not long ago, our boss sent a mail around asking for feedback on "AI". I sent an answer saying the usual: you can't trust LLM on basic searches so it's useless if you have to double check, my short 2/3 bad experiences with it, and why I am concerned about water and energy usage as well as privacy problems with a nice link for each point of articles I found here (thank You people!).

But to be honest, I am still curious about this LLM thing and every once in a while try to give the thing a chance... but damn. This is really shit! Our work provides access to many different LLM models but I pretty much have had issues with all of them.

Copilot now hangs and crashes if I type more than 8 words in the prompt before sending the damn prompt. Once I manage to send the prompt and get a (relatively decent!) answer, the program crashes if I scroll too fast in the window. I mean... lmfao

In the beginning (months ago) Copilot was working in our environment but I anyway could not get what I wanted out of it, apparently my task required to much processing (making a powerpoint out of a big pdf).

With Claude V4, we are supposed to be able to upload files, but it works like one third of the time. Then I ask it some very simple thing like e.g. "how to write bold in markdown" and the thing gave me two blank responses and the thread was just fucked from here. Ok?

Previous version of Claude (V3.7 Sonnet) I was trying to get help on some basic scripts. First simple prompt, 10 words including "Hello" (Yeah I am the kind of person who writes "hello" to LLM, whatyougonnado?), answer goes full stroke with sentence parts, fucked up punctuation, repeats and ends up repeating the question. I found this one really funny.

I don't remember what exactly but I also had similar kind of troubles with gemini.

So yeah, just saying "ok, fuck ai", but to me this is genuinely shitty on top of all the other problems it includes. How can this be pushed so much in the corpo world? For real?

Dear community,

Maybe the answer lies in front of my eyes, I am good at not seeing this kind of things but... Is it nornal that my jellyfin recognizes en.hi subtitles as Hindi instead of English? The subtitles come from bazarr and the related github issue I found is closed: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/issues/4291 Did I miss something?

EDIT: Bazarr problem: Somehow it was completely missing the language tag "en". My fix is to "remove HI tags" in bazarr. It is a per file operation though.
