Is it possible to show the image preview and then try to load the original imagem showing the loading bar at the bottom of the screen?

It's very frustrating seeing the image right there but been unable to open it and zoom in.

Not for me, even in the browser. It is happening for a lot of things on Lemmy. I guess it's geolocked. Very open platform it seems...

I've found that this happens to me only on cross-instance posts, 'sharing' the url to Firefox focus will either load the content or show me an error message. If it does load, it often loads like a 90's webpage over dialup...that is to say very slowly.
Maybe the timeout is more aggressive in boost than the web browser?
