When I was a teen I wanted to be cool and buy some chains to hang around my belt loops but my mom thought it's too expensive when we looked at them at Hot Topic. Then we were at a pet shop and similar looking chain leads were a fraction of the cost and she got those for me instead lol

Did you upgrade to furry them?

[–] Prime_Minister_Keyes@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

EZPZ. Doesn't cost a dime.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What's that animation from?

[–] Bananigans@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Cas'l by Bruce Brickford. Enjoy your clay carnage.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago

Thank you, I will.

Alas I'm not a furry just an edgy teen. Wasn't even aware of them back then

[–] hoch@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

That's exactly what someone with a $4,000 fur suit in their closet would say

[–] Sergio@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 year ago

Your mom introduced you DIY.

When I was a teen I wore the chain from a hanging houseplant as a necklace. I wasn't goth or anything, just a fucking moron.

I wasn’t goth or anything, ~~just a fucking moron.~~

just fucking cool. Don't let Big Interior Decor tell you what to do with your hanging houseplant chains!

[–] pubertthefat@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago

The second chain on my chain wallet was from PetSmart.

[off topic]

Wanted a litter box for my 12 pound cat. Largest litter box at the pet store was $35.00. Found a bigger, stronger box at the hardware store for $8.00. And it comes with a sealing lid.

Don't buy those stupid New Rock shoes, get military boots from the surplus store

[–] Sergio@slrpnk.net 0 points 1 year ago

gotta be a little careful buying cheap boots bc sometimes they're made out of cheap leather that reeks to high heaven. or they're made out of synthentic material that cracks after a couple months. But in general, yes.

I had a pair of urban camo cutoffs that absolutely refused to die that I got for like $5. Paying for "alt" type fashion is just fucking stupid… Where do they think it came from?!

[–] match@pawb.social 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

but when i buy my shibari ropes at home depot everyone's at the sex club loses their minds

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You can use home depot rope for bandage, you jus5 have to boil it a bunch first to soften it, then use a lighter to burn away the prickly bits. And maybe coat it un a wax.

[–] D_C@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago

I'm usually covered in candle wax anyways. It burns soooooo good!!

Hessian bag from some designer brand shop for pretentious twats: £800

Hessian bag for life from several supermarkets: Maybe a few quid

I didn't really want to go in there, but someone else wanted to and I was immediately disgusted at its existence when I looked around.

[–] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

And they actually work 😎

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Most older goths would likely agree here

[–] Visstix@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Gotta keep em under control

[–] Num10ck@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

its about time for the mainstream to go goth.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Metalheads or hard rockers occasionally used to, when I was young. From the hardware store of course.

[–] spooky2092@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 year ago

I can't count the number of times my buddy had to go back to the car cuz he forgot he was wearing his chains until we got to the door and had to be patted down/wanded lol

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And so did 80s gang members!

[–] Phoenicianpirate@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago

Those two douchebags don't know who they are messing with!

[–] MightBeAlpharius@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Some of them do... Or at least, they did - I mostly remember seeing it when I was in high school, and it sort of faded out when I was in college. Not sure if it fell out of style, or if it's only a thing with the Hot Topic/mall goth crowd

Edit: uncorrected an accidental autocorrect

[–] grue@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

It probably got outlawed by school dress codes / anti-weapons policies.
