What is global news?
Something that happened or was uncovered recently anywhere in the world. It doesn't have to have global implications. Just has to be informative in some way.
Post guidelines
Title format
Post title should mirror the news source title. If you don't like the title of article, look for an alternative source instead of editorializing it.
URL format
Post URL should be the original link to the article (even if paywalled) and archived copies left in the body. It allows avoiding duplicate posts when cross-posting.
[Opinion] prefix
Opinion (op-ed) articles must use [Opinion] prefix before the title. Opinion articles refer to articles that their publisher doesn't explictly endorse.
Country prefix
Country prefix can be added to the title with a separator (|, :, etc.) if the news is from a local publisher who doesn't clearly mention the country.

5. Ad hominem attacks
Any kind of personal attacks are expressly forbidden. If you can't argue your position without attacking a person's character, you already lost the argument.

Stay on topic. Keep it relevant.

I love all the genuine news we saw on Hexbear and ML about the parade and meetings...their outcomes, analysis of military capabilities, comparisons between this parade and other recent ones...genuine real information and news.
And then over here on lemmy dot zip we get "ZOMG EVIL SISSYPEE LEADER WANTS TO BE IMMORTAL?" Like first off how is that news. Second off it makes complete sense for 2 world leaders to be talking about their countries advancements in science. The fear mongering is comical especially alongside the complete lack of any actual real news about it being posted here.

Look, you do see how literally anyone could have a conversation about modern medicine leading to longer lifespans, right? Y'all are only making a big deal about it because it's the two people you hate the most talking about it. The "journalist" reporting it like this is disingenuous at best, so when you shared it here, as if it was news, that makes you look bad. You get that, right?
- When two autocrats that have immense power talk about it it has a bit different meaning than two random people on the street.
- I disagree with some of Xi's policies, but I don't hate him. On the other hand, war crimial Putin belongs in jail.
- Where did you see it being reported as "disingenuous"? As the article mentioned it was " <...> providing a rare glimpse into a candid conversation usually hidden from public view.".
- I post what I find interesting, not what someone else thinks I should post. This community is built around not censoring any point of view, no matter how it makes someone else feel. From one extreme to the other extreme and everything in between is allowed here and people can decide for themselves what to think and how to interpret the news.
It's disingenuous because it's not news. It's conflating a benign conversation as scandalous simply because of who's doing the talking. You going to post their coffee order next?
Lets agree to disagree. Just because you read it as scandalous doesn't mean everyone else is.
That's pretty much exactly the topic of conversation I would have expected when two megalomaniacs meet.

We need better safeguards against the mentally ill taking and holding power in our countries.
These types of mental illness (addiction to power, money, status) naturally lead towards positions of power. If we don't actively prevent it from happening, we will always be controlled by malignant megalomaniacs.
Bring back sortition.
These positions are pursued by these kinds of people specifically because they reward those kinds of behaviours. I'd even argue it's required to seek power, money, and status in order to climb the political ladder.
