Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1778 readers
100 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

That community has apparently had similar bans in the past, and neither the community nor the server mention their rules anywhere I can find. I also messaged the mod to ask for a link to the rules, their reply was "You need to complete your sentences otherwise you’re going to get a ban."

Not sure if the mod just didn't like the content of my comment and made up a nonpolitical reason, or if their modding is really that arbitrary.

I was* banned for commenting an incomplete sentence.

You're on thin ice, mister!

You win the internets! lmao

I strongly suspect the incomplete sentence wasn’t the issue.

That same user, I’m pretty sure, was the one posting “joking” absurdist comics about how Biden and Kamala Harris had gleefully caused the entire genocide single-handed and then running and hiding behind “I’m just saying ridiculous stuff, like Monty Python, oho” when the comments were alarmed and pushed back on it.

The “incomplete sentence” thing sounds a lot like more of the same absurdist cover to deflect from the fascism they are actually doing.

Ngl it's quite a funny ban reason 😂 but you really shouldn't take any sdf communities seriously, they are just screwing with you.

Your question was valid:

Source for Biden orchestrating it?

But they could have simply replied "Ok, maybe aiding and abetting would be a better choice of words" or something similar.

they are just screwing with you

This construction is called Schrodinger’s Douchebag.

Deleting someone in the comments who is pointing out that your dead-serious post is being dishonest, doesn’t all of a sudden become light-hearted and silly just because you are lying in a weird way about why you’re doing it.

I don't think they are particularly political tbh. I guess you can choose to take it seriously or choose to find it funny. You do you Philip.

You do you Philip

Always do.

See, as far as I can tell, you are actually doing the kind of political absurdism that SDF is pretending to here.

I honestly can’t tell whether you are trolling or doing satire or what your real political leaning is, which probably means it’s pitch perfect satire. Maybe. Like I say I have no idea. But the fact that I can detect a single strong political leaning in SDF’s antics, and often the funny has to give way to the politics apparently, is exactly what makes me feel like they’re not doing absurdism so much as they are hiding behind it.

that didnt sound anything like me

[–] PhilipTheBucket@ponder.cat 1 points 1 year ago

Precisely. Like I said, I always do me.

Severe sense of humour deficiency up and down this thread. YDI because it's funny

It’s happened to me before, too. As far as I’m concerned, that mod is a troll (“Thank you for creating content!”), so I don’t engage with their communities at all.

[–] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 1 year ago

Wow, I mean I've seen them create comments like that before but I had no idea it was that bad. they almost seem like a bot from those responses.

[–] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 1 year ago

The mod of that community is a real asshole. Bans people for the littlest things including just things they don't like (they claim acronyms are against the rules there but have no rules listed).

You're better off posting in a real news community like !globalnews@lemmy.zip or !world@quokk.au
