It makes people overeager for vigilantism. Instead of exploring ways to evaluate things and improve systems so that better people can flourish, or improving the "better" to be far more attractive (not just in the fashion sense), it makes people far more focused on humiliating certain people (who sometimes are not guilty at all). It makes "us vs. them" mentalities far easier and thus furthers horrible engagementbait social media algorithms. It would be better if schadenfreude didn't exist.
