aussie has australian call centre, the others don’t which means bit higher price per month, buddy is their low cost version but uses the same network
tbh most are much as much in terms of speeds, it’s really only super cheap providers that run out of bandwidth during peak times
Thanks for the recommendations. They all look to be pretty decent, and roughly in line with what we’ve been paying to Comcast, and arguably slightly cheaper for about the same performance.
Aussie Broadband is not the cheapest, but it is by far the best I've used. They have consistently good speeds, knowledgeable customer service, and even offer a pro rata refund when cancelling.
Dodo tried to charge me an illegal fee and would hang up when I tried to dispute it. I told them I would take it to the ombudsman then hung up on them. A supervisor called back withing 10 seconds to offer to remove the fee and provide a refund for the last 3 months. They knew what they were doing was illegal.
I've had really good experiences with Aussie Broadband, support has been great and they've been proactive at reaching out about stuff.
My plan (100/20 on HFC) is the same cost as the equivalent iiNet/Superloop plan (And it's being boosted to 500/50 in the next couple of months), they're native IPv6, and they support "bring your own router" setups.

I avoid Telstra and Optus and most of the other providers, so can't comment on those.
Typically, I switch back and forth between Leaptel and Superloop as they normally have 6/12 month deals. One downside with Superloop is that you are expected to give 1 month notice when switching away. Sometimes you can get away with not, but I wouldn't rely on it.
I'll add that Exetel is owned by Superloop now, so experience will be roughly the same (but they use PPoE which is slightly annoying).

FYI Exetel only offers one plan now 500/50 for $80/month. One thing to be aware of is apparently there is no longer an opt-out of CGNAT, which may cause problems for some.
Also for Aust broadband, telecomms etc, Whirlpool forums is a good source of detailed information.

Exetel has a great deal going at the minute - $80/month for 500/50. It comes with some caveats about CGNAT and what not, but for normal internet use that price point cant be beat --> https://www.exetel.com.au/
I use Aussie Broadband for on HFC, and their customer service team is beyond amazing and worth their price a few times over. I could not recommend another ISP in Australia as much as I would recommend Aussie.
Not only is the service team based in Australia, but they're knowledgeable and persistent. When I have an issue, they will call me back to check that everything is working correctly and you really feel the person you are talking to is invested in helping you. I'm able to talk to them about things like cgnat etc and they're all familiar with the technical aspects of their service to do what I need. I know if I were to call many of the other large ISPs, I wouldn't get much further than them telling me to turn my modem off and on again.
In fact (and in contrast), last year I had to deal with another famous Australian ISP because my roaming plan stopped working in London. After being escalated, I got someone from overseas on the phone who talked down to me, accused me of lying about my phone's configuration and claiming to be THE EXPERT OF ROAMING (despite being patently wrong about how ITU codes work). It was resolved two weeks later when said nameless ISP found the bug and fixed it for however many users.
