I've been noticing this more and more in the modlogs, with it proven via the "creator" option in some instances' modlogs that the people doing the bans were mods and not admins, and when I first joined Lemmy, one of the things that were held as a universal truth was that this absolutely could not happen.

Mods apparently have an option to ban from all communities they moderate across instances button, which does not care if the person being banned has ever been to that community. Some of the mods are pretty ban happy and love that button.

It makes sense for spammers, but is definitely being overused.

I mean, it's a function that's been there for a while. I don't know how to do it, but it was possible at least before the reddit api expodus.
