DETROIT (AP) — Former President Barack Obama on Saturday seized on what he described as cruelty and indecency coming from President Donald Trump and his Republican allies, stepping into one of the nation’s ugliest midterm fights as he worked to rally Democratic voters in two Midwestern battlegrounds.

First in Ohio, Obama took aim at Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who has doubled down on an advertising campaign featuring the estranged mother of Democratic rival Dr. Amy Acton. Trump and Vice President JD Vance have also defended the ad, even as Republican leaders across Ohio, including Gov. Mike DeWine, have called for its removal.

“In recent days, we’ve seen there is no line he will not cross, no low he will not sink to,” Obama said of Ramaswamy, noting that Acton has “spoken movingly about her painful childhood and all she’s experienced: abuse, neglect and homelessness.”

He's not wrong, but I don't think Obama's the right messenger here.

I vividly recall how he let the bankers skate when they destroyed the US Economy, how he let NYPD brutalize Occupy, how he allowed torture and his kill list, and his blood-soaked foreign policy. Heck, he even had the balls to walk into Flint and performatively sip a glass of water in front of people whose water had been poisoned for profit. Even Donald had it in him to pretend to be empathetic to Flint residents when he visited.

Five families, just on my street, lost their homes during his presidency. Multiply that times a few million and you get why Democrats didn't want to associate with him later in his presidency. (Not unlike how so many Republicans are distancing themselves from Donald right now.) Your performative empathy doesn't matter when you have real power to create meaningful change and you let bankers make people homeless for profit they don't even need.

Why this man is still so popular baffles me.
