A student protest against the deterioration of education and social inequality in Albania turned into violent clashes with police on Tuesday.
Student organizers stated that the nationwide protest stemmed from deteriorating conditions at universities, the high cost of education, limited financial aid, and bleak job prospects after graduation. Some also expressed outrage over rising inequality and a political system they felt was failing young people.
Protesters threw bricks at the Ministry of Education in Tirana, while security forces responded with tear gas and water cannons and arrested several participants.
