/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

It's all about the notes you don't scat.

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago

Thanks for the scat tips, I used to scat all over the place but it's better to just drop a couple nuggets when they least expect it

Of note Captain Benjamin Sisko was an accomplished jazz pianist.

[–] AbsolutelyNotSpez@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've heard Avery Brooks play. He's good!

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Holy shit, Sisko's here on Earth playing piano??? I thought he was with the prophets!

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 month ago

This is where he goes back in time to the jazz riots.

Sometimes you need to have a break from Wormhole beings shenanigans.

Linear time is like, an illusion, man

I’m just gonna say it: Jonathan Frakes is not a very good trombone player.

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 month ago

He really isn't. His stance is way too closed and stiff, which probably leads to all the other problems like poor embrochure and mispositioning the slide

I don't hate Jazz, I just don't like listening to it

I love Jazz, I just hate the sound it makes.

Now take your medicine!

Medicine = 12 hours of interpretive jazz.

If you want to fish out and eradicate your internalized hatred of [bass] clarinet... go play a little game called Blue Prince.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

both Asian-American characters play clarinet

Is this a stereotype

[–] SatyrSack@quokk.au 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Was it implied they were American? Is that just based on their accents?

IIRC Kim is from San Francisco and Keiko is from Japan.
