A spiders net blocked the path I was going to walk on. It was not necessary for me to go there, so I just took the photo and went elsewhere.

Araneus Diadematus. Commonly called a Cross Orbweaver or European Garden Spider. They were introduced into the United States long ago. A very benign and beneficial creature.

Orbweavers and Micrathenas just LOVE building their webs across the middle of a trail.

As a person with -mild but real- arachnophobia, I would have walked the other way too..
