Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

All the ivermectin the MAGA crew was taking may have prepared them for the mystery meat coming soon to a grocery store near you.

[–] arin@lemmy.world 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Mystery Whitehouse meat that skips inspections 🇺🇸

[–] Leather@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

The only thing MAGAts seem to be interested inspecting are people's genitals.

Hot take: in areas we haven't reintroduced wolves or other predators, feral horse populations should be controlled so they don't compete with native buffalo.

Edit: even hotter take: mountain lion hunting should be banned so they can help take care of deer and horses.

[–] Malgas@beehaw.org 7 points 3 days ago

Wild horse populations on federal land are usually actively managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

I assume this is different and worse, both because the BLM was gutted and because with this administration things invariably are, but I don't know enough of the details to say further.

So tons of Trump mystery meat appears and they refuse to say where it's from.

Meanwhile, this is happening.

Is the media scared of being sued for making this connection? Nobody seems to be relating the two, but it seems so obvious.

WTF is with all those "Thank you for your attention to this matter!" blurbs at the bottom of each of his messages? Does he think it makes him sound all statesmanlike or something?

Donnie. Baby. (And I mean that literally as you being the world's oldest toddler.) That shit makes you sound like an HOA Karen, not like a statesman.

Sounds like they have some madcow adjacent disease, and that's going to be in the new Whitehouse mystery meat 💀

it will be feral pig meat. RFK does want all those brainworms, and taniea solium eggs do lodge in the BRAIN.

[–] plateee@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago

It's okay, prion disease totally isn't passed on by consumption.

Also, it's completely possible to cook out the bad prions.

Trust me, I'm RFK.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Oh god, I thought parasites and bacteria were all we had to worry about, but now we're gonna be hearing about prion outbreaks?

I hope they at least label it with "TRUMP MEAT" in giant gold letters...

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

probably parasites from pork too.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago

But parasites and viruses are curable if they're caught early enough and you have a strong enough constitution. A prion is a death sentence involving a slow and painful descent into madness.

Yes Congrats, all the horses in America are descendents of domestic horses. We call those who haven't been domestic in more than two generations 'wild', though. Ya know, to differentiate them from actually feral horses. 'Wild' horses in the US are actually semi-feral though.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

wild horses are only used in context of species level. since there are no true wild horses in the wild.(prewazalki is actually descended from an ancient lingeage of demestic horse.) Horses, camels did evolve in North america though.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The horses should be in sanctuaries.

[–] Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Why do you say they should they be in sanctuaries rather than the wild?

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 0 points 3 days ago (3 children)

If they're an invasive species it could be a threat to the ecosystem.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago

So are Taco Bell franchises.

[–] Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Wait, I thought wild horses were native to the Americas?? Are they invasive? Thats wild

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I think a lot of the current day wild horses come from Europe.

[–] Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oh interesting. But horses themselves are native right? are there different species of horses that occupy different ecological niches that might cause ecological problems by them being here? (No worries if you dont know I'm just curious)

Thanks for the explanation!

[–] A_be_seedy@beehaw.org 2 points 2 days ago

As I understand, there are no native US horses. The native American cultures that had horses integrated them into their culture after the arrival of Europeans.

I actually just learned that the Assateague horses didn't come from surviving a ship wreck but from people in the 17th century avoiding HOA rules.

Wait until you see what humans - a rapidly -spreading invasive species from africa mixed with a group from france - are doing to the ecosystem !

Sanctuary? Sign me up!

[–] save_the_humans@leminal.space 1 points 3 days ago

Maybe it'd help to release some polar bears into the suburban ecosystem to help curb the population.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 1 points 3 days ago

That's the way it's gonna be, lil' darling
We'll be munching on the horses, yeah yeah

[–] Amnesigenic@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Broken clock moment, they're not native and they make it harder for native species to survive, there shouldn't be any wild horses in the Americas, they're literally just feral domesticated animals that we do nothing about because people think they're beautiful or whatever other stupid justification. This is a good thing.

[–] piccolo@sh.itjust.works 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

there shouldn't be any wild horses in the Americas

Horses quite literally evolved in the americas migrated to asia and went extinct in americas ~10,000 years ago.

[–] Amnesigenic@lemmy.ml 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Idk how you managed to type the words "and went extinct in americas ~10,000 years ago" without having a single fucking thought about them, genuinely impressive

[–] piccolo@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] Amnesigenic@lemmy.ml 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Horses went extinct naturally in the Americas thousands of years before the arrival of European colonists, after which their previous ecosystems continued adapting to life without them, then we introduced distantly related domesticated animals to those ecosystems, causing harm to the native species that now have to compete with them. They don't belong here in the wild, it's our fault that they are, fixing that would be a good thing.

[–] piccolo@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

There are pretty strong theories that over hunting caused the extinction of many mega fauana at the end of the last ice age. Though obviously, the climate change caused disruptions that would allowed our ancestors to push many species over the edge.

And sure, modern domestic horses would be different than their wild ancestors, as they would have been less adapted to their new environment, and that can pose problems for the horses themselves. But 10,000 years is hardly time for ecosystems to adapted without them, in fact, eco systems are dying because we have killed off all the large herbivores. Have a video to explain things far better than i can

[–] Amnesigenic@lemmy.ml 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

There are native north american large herbivores we can work on repopulating, horses aren't one of them. 10,000 is plenty of time for an ecosystem to change in response to the absence of a large species.

[–] piccolo@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Other than Bisons, there isnt any other large native species that thrive in the environment horses do.

[–] Amnesigenic@lemmy.ml 0 points 3 days ago

Depends on your definition of large, still enough of a reason not to allow a feral population of domesticated horses to continue existing. We don't need horses in the wild here, they don't belong here and make life harder for species that do, it's not complicated.
