Slightly misleading headline, IMO:

“It’s had a bit of a rough time lately, and I think everyone just needs to chill out and wait for what comes from having space… and time.”

“I am not the next Doctor. I am Rose Tyler in hiatus,” she said. “Sorry, that’s a really cryptic answer, but because I’m not currently filming Doctor Who as the Doctor, I can’t lie and say otherwise. I’m sweating. I hate this.”

She continued: “I think you’ve all got to be very patient because it’ll be worth it when it comes. And I think that we need to celebrate the fact that the [revived] show has … been around for a very long time, it’s massively successful, and it’s impacting so many people’s lives positively.”

While I'd like there to be new episodes, I'm not super concerned about the future of the show personally. RTD said in an old interview (from his first run) that Doctor Who is like Robin Hood and Sherlock Holmes now, it's just part of the national consciousness and I think he was right. Plus, as Billie Piper alludes to, it had a 26-year run, went away for a bit (during which time there was still a stream of novels, audio plays etc.) then came back and had another 20-year run. I think worst case it cools off for a few years, we get lots of books, Big Finish does their thing and we probably get a lot of online fan-made things this time, then it'll eventually come back and do probably another 20-ish year run.

Or maybe something will come of the tender and it'll be back in a year or two (or three). Either way, it's not really going anywhere IMO.
