Dogs

I used to have a dog who we would put her pills in with her kibble. She'd eat the food and delicately pluck the pills out and drop them on the floor beside her bowl. Then we'd go over, point at the pills and say "get them!", and she'd eat them! Such a good girl.

My pup is so food motivated, and we do lots of tricks and rewards with her, that we don't have to do anything special really. Just ask her to spin, she'll spin, then toss her the pill and down it goes.

My partner is very impressed by how quickly I can administer up to 4 different meds to our stubborn dog after her recent spinal surgery. No nonsense, just open the hatch and in goes the airplane. :D

My technique is "balance three pills on my right thumb, grab his snout from above with my left hand, put my thumb and pointer finger into the gaps in his teeth so he opens his mouth, and shove my pill-thumb down his throat." Then he gets a treat to make sure he actually swallows it.

We've gotten pretty good at it over the years. Old dog needs his meds and he seems mostly resigned to it. Like, he'll waddle away slowly until I catch up to him. He's a good boy.

And yes, I do find pills in his beard later sometimes.
