Nope, Samus was born a girl and has never denied being a woman.
She frequently get misgendered (mistaken as a man) by people who assume bounty hunters must be male.
I have since learned that the oc was saying they want to be a trans lady and also like Samus.
During a post-development interview in the Japanese Nintendo Official Guide Book for Super Metroid, when asked if there were any secrets about Samus that only he knew, Matsuoka claimed that Samus was actually a "newhalf", a Japanese slang term for a transgender woman.
It has been debated since but plenty of people choose to stick with his statement.

With another Fedi guy recently we were looking for the origin of this picture. To see if it was actually officially Nintendo released for real.
We couldn't.
So anyone, tell me if you do find it.
(We found it looked like a comedic comic describing Metroid. But searching through the content, we haven't found this picture.)
What I could find was, that is from a manga game guide released for the first game in Japan, but the artist didn't know, Samus was a woman.

Yes. We have found this Victory Techniques comic on the internet archive. But we could not find this picture in it.

This is where we left last time if you want to check for yourself. Maybe you'll have a better eye than us.
IIRC, the story that I heard years ago was that this originally came from a promotional comic for the original Metroid, and Nintendo at the time didn't want to reveal Samus's gender for some reason and basically had to call this canon as a result when asked about it.
I don't remember exactly, but I think one of the early Metroid games had an ending that had a scene revealing Samus is a woman.

Yes. It's the ending of the first Metroid from 1986. Given you finished within a certain time or used a cheat code.
I get the story though. But I want to check it by finding this promotional comic and canon thing. So I'm asking people to help me to point me to it.
