An Instagram post turned one California student newspaper into a free-speech flash point. The students say they were just doing their homework.

The demonstrators in the photo are holding up a banner that says “Students Fight Back.” In smaller print, the banner includes the words “Against Zionism.” After reader objections rolled in, including one Instagram comment comparing the Bark to the Ku Klux Klan, the school district announced it was opening a mandatory investigation; board policy required as much, they said, in any case of public complaints.

Comparing anti-Zionists to the Ku Klux Klan is pro-genocide lunacy.

Also, unrelated to the story, but WIRED seems to be quite heavy-handed with their anti-adblocker. Opening the article in-app with Mlem only shows the first paragraph, opening it in-browser with ad-blockers enabled shows a few more paragraphs before getting cut off, while only an archived version shows the whole article.

Yeah, Wired still has some good stories, but I don't even bother trying with their site. I open it, grab a clean link and go straight to the archive to actually read it. I guess I could think about paying for it since I tend to like their content.
