I don't use Apple stuff

I generally prefer text messaging, but there are instances when a synchronous communication method has its merits:

  • when playing video games with friends, or just shooting the shit after dinner, a voice call (usually on Discord) works best.
  • when I need to vent to a friend about more serious stuff, I prefer a voice call as well (this is mostly just so there’s no screenshots but also my messages would be so longwinded)
  • when something is time-sensitive or requires immediate back and forth (e.g. I’m at the supermarket to pick up dinner and I want to ask my SO what they want to eat)
  • video chats are reserved for calls with my mum (we usually chat for like 2 minutes so that she knows I’m okay and to check if there are any news), my SO when they go abroad for work, and seldom my nieces (because they are lovely girls and I love to chat with them)

Once again, texting takes precedence unless it’s one of these instances, which all consider people I’m comfortable around. I still dread sometimes having to call someplace to make an appointment.

Yes! Thank you! There is a time and place for calls.

I don't like either. Let's just text.

Neither, text based messages are superior, no voice messages either. Those are even worse. Though if forced then basic calls, not video.

I don't do either. I highly value privacy. Text me or leave me alone.

No videos of me, not ever. Not even photos. Occasional phone calls are okay.

Oh so you're asking me if I want to be hacked into pieces with an axe or a cleaver?

If an involved Appointment (Counseling and similar) isn't in person, I prefer to see them as feels more connected.

I don't see the point of showing or seeing face otherwise.

What does video calling do better than voice calling?
Do you want to show me something? Cool, we can do video. But I'll disable mine (when possible)
Just to see me? Depends on who you are.

[–] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Neither and only text me if it’s to make a plan to meet up in person

You can do facetime without video

Just fyi

You get better audio quality than normal cellular phone call

And should in theory increase privacy because of end to end encryption

Of course the drawback is data use, depending on your plan

[–] protogen420@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago

forcing your annoying relatives into an effective normal call

[–] osanna@lemmy.vg 1 points 1 month ago

neither? Yeah, I'm gonna have to go ahead and say messaging.

[–] rektstarsceosu@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

ignore their texts unless urgent
