Lol auto speed? Who in the fuck wants that?

I bet Gemini came up with that bullshit. Some asshole who's paid too much is treating himself to more cocain while patting himself on the back for being the one to carry that idea from the LLM to the workers.

Ngl I might use auto speed, I'll definitely at least try it. It sounds like one of those things that, if it works would be awesome, but honestly I'd be surprised if it works and I end up leaving it on. I'd love for videos to be sped up the perfect amount for me, but I highly doubt that this feature will know how fast that is.

Ask music sounds dumb as hell and, after reading the article, idek what on-the-go mode is.

Edit: At first glance auto-speed seems kinda lit. I love the idea of saving time by watching videos at a faster speed, but feel like it ruins the experience, so maybe this could be a good stop gap. I'll have to see if I like it long term. I'll try to remember to return here to edit (but I'll probably forget). On-the-go seems kinda neat I guess but I don't think I'll use it ever again. I didn't even bother trying ask music.

Oh man, does that mean my sub to yt-dlp is going to go up as well?

[–] isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

It will go up by 400%, I'm afraid.

I'm concerned to. Hopefully we can weather the upcoming storm.

If you didn't already know Dexerto was trash at a level just barely short of tabloids then I welcome you 🔥

I pay for the “lite” version but only because I want to watch it on my Apple TV without ads and I wasn’t able to get any other apps or workarounds up for that.

I was surprised to read that there is a "lite" plan again after I was kicked off when it shut down like ten years ago.

Edit: Oh, it's not available in Sweden. Well I'll stick with my browser addons for an ad free experience then.

Speaking as someone who has used Apple devices for literal decades, go to Best Buy and purchase an NVIDIA Shield Pro.

Replace the stock launcher with FLauncher, replace YouTube with SmartTube Next, and Twitch with S0undTV.

Congrats. Nearly the same performance and feature set and no ads.

The only shortcomings are with VP9-based HDR video…

Which means ONLY YouTube HDR content won’t play. Plex, Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, Hulu, etc. all play can HDR or DolbyVision from their native video codec (h.265 / HEVC) with zero issues…

Actually, I love my Apple TV. It’s better than all other streaming devices I’ve tried so far. The only issue I have is with YouTube ads. Everything else is fantastic.

Also, I don’t use any Google products, except for YT. Aside from that I’m completely degoogled.

I’ve heard great things about the Shield and I appreciate the feedback on it! I hope someone else sees your advice and finds It useful! Thank you!

[–] JDPoZ@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Apple definitely now has the top tier hardware for sure… but I just cannot stand the pervasiveness of all the increasing ads everywhere, and the Shield can basically be de-Googled.

If you ever decide the ads are too much but still want the relatively high performance, I can’t recommend the Shield enough.

Good to hear everything else is good though.

Laughs in PipePipe and SmartTube.

[–] NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Laughs in, well simply not playing the game. No YouTube anymore. That was easy.

Got any recommendations for Peertubers to follow?

[–] GutterRat42@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So, I don't remember when was the last time I willingly used Youtube. I have been sent links for friends, but I don't type "youtube.com" nor do I have their app installed. The last Youtube video I watched was my cousin's college graduation

[–] isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Genuine question, do you consume video content? (Including cable TV)

[–] GutterRat42@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Mostly PBS at this point. But yes
