What is global news?

Something that happened or was uncovered recently anywhere in the world. It doesn't have to have global implications. Just has to be informative in some way.

Post guidelines

Title formatPost title should mirror the news source title. If you don't like the title of article, look for an alternative source instead of editorializing it.
URL formatPost URL should be the original link to the article (even if paywalled) and archived copies left in the body. It allows avoiding duplicate posts when cross-posting.
[Opinion] prefixOpinion (op-ed) articles must use [Opinion] prefix before the title. Opinion articles refer to articles that their publisher doesn't explictly endorse.
Country prefixCountry prefix can be added to the title with a separator (|, :, etc.) if the news is from a local publisher who doesn't clearly mention the country.

The assault on anything LGBTQ-related in Russia continues. After hundreds of administrative cases and even criminal prosecutions, after bans on support organisations, the police have now filed a report against a 13-year-old schoolboy for “LGBT propaganda” and for displaying extremist symbols. Mediazona discovered the records relating to the case in the Russian court database (we are not disclosing his name or region for safety reasons). It’s illegal to prosecute a someone for this kind of offence at such a young age, so the charges have been dropped. But the boy now faces the risk of being sent to a special school for juvenile offenders.

The tip toeing around what exactly the kid did is egregious.

From the context of the article I can only assume the kid showed an image of a rainbow flag since it kept mentioning "extremist" symbols. Just ridiculous.

Human authoritarian structures are extraordinarily hard on kids, particularly in matters of psycho-sexual development. This kid is probably going to be ruined for the rest of his life as a result of this intervention.

Not ruined, just broken like a lot of queer kids.

Sike, that ‘special school’ turns out to be the frontlines in Donbass.

This is what happens when you want to resist western influence but have literally nothing worthwhile to offer as an alternative

What an absurdly weird framing of this issue.

Hating gay people is how the Russian bourgeoisie has chosen to differentiate themselves from their western counterparts. They needed a big cultural difference to latch onto and exacerbate because the dynamics of their socioeconomic system are otherwise nearly identical to the wests'.

Western influence is when gay.

Is the western influence in the room with you right now?
