  1. The United States of America: This is easily one of the weirdest fake countries in the world. It calls itself United, but functions on being in constant disagreement about everything other than mass murdering anyone who looks at it funny, and then it still disagrees sometimes on how much mass murder it should do, when it should do it, and whether congressional approval is necessary. Everything cultural in it belongs to someone else and its early form creators were so bad at understanding the world they called the region's indigenous people Indians. It's hard to describe how thoroughly fake this fake country is. 10/10 for Fakeness, 10/10 for Brutality. Verdict: Dismantle and start over; it was never their land to take.

  2. Britain: Some kind of island or something I think. It's hard to tell because Britain spent more time mass murdering other peoples than it ever spent developing a meaningful culture of its own. Still has royals with power in 2026. Likes to voice nature documentaries for some reason, in spite of having a legacy of destroying the legacy of naturally existing peoples. Might just be a NATO outpost in disguise by this point. 7/10 for Fakeness, 12/10 for Brutality. Verdict: In dire need of a post-colonial, post-imperial power structure and culture.

  3. Israel: A base of operations for colonial expansion in the region. Pretends to be Jewish for some reason, but has almost nothing to do with Judaism in practice. Bastard adult child of the legacy of 1 and 2, trying to live up to their reputation for mass murder, displacement, and colonization. The modern embodiment of colonialism as a tool of "nothing is real unless it's used to justify genocide." Hollowed out and weaponized to the nth degree. 12/10 for Fakeness. 8/10 for Brutality (more televised but still can't match the sheer mass murder of the other two). Verdict: Doesn't belong there and never did. Consumed by death cult behavior. No reason for it to exist as a state entity; has no concept of power as anything but a tool for exploiting and murdering.

  1. Vape Nation - geographical location is obscured by clouds, compasses unreliable, melon wind pervasive.

  2. New Zealand - Not even on maps half the time, may be Middle Earth in a trench coat. Indigenous population is impressive, though.

  3. Florida - seems to be launch pad to occupied Palestine, deeply un serious population, rampant tax haven, actively trying to destroy itself with weather weapons. Only country to weaponize squirrels to use as small arms.

Why East Turkmenistan? Whom should they belong to in your opinion? Iran? Afghanistan? Uzbekistan?

[–] mao_dun@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

yeah that was a typo/slip up of turkmenistan being a real thing

as far as I know there's not an "east" turkmenistan being a political entity? but western NGOs and separatist terrorists certainly want to claim an "east turkestan/turkistan"

  1. "Israel"
  2. "Republic of Korea"
  3. Lithuania, Latvia & Estonia (3-way tie)

After that you can add every single micronation in Europe. They are also all fake.

And finally, and i know this one is going to be controversial, Belgium.

whats the story of belgium here?

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I just don't see the point of it.

Used to be the southern half of the Netherlands. Rebelled wanting to be a republic but had a monarchy forced on it after the Napoleonic wars when all the monarchs of Europe were terrified of republics. Half of it speaks French the other half Dutch. Should have been split between France and the Netherlands a long time ago, but the British kept it artificially alive by threatening to defend it, just so they could have an annoying buffer between France and Germany for the sake of "balance of power on the continent" (aka the British wanting to prevent any other country getting more powerful than them). Its king once owned the Congo as colonial property and committed horrible atrocities there, and they never really apologized or paid reparations. All in all, it's a pointless and artificially constructed state, just a consequence of 19th century European power games.

Kosovo is certainly in the top 10.

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Like Taiwan, it's not internationally recognized by the UN as a country so it doesn't even qualify for this list. So it's not just fake it's extra super fake.

lol thats a nice gotcha, true true.

All of them. Aren't all countries just arbitrary lines on a map that can be created, disappear, or be redrawn at the whims of history?

[–] amemorablename@lemmygrad.ml 0 points 1 week ago

You're not wrong in the most literal sense. I'm being a bit tongue in cheek with the tone of the post (is why I put it under shitposting). But the spirit of it, I'm partly serious, in that I use examples of countries that don't have much of a culture / whose culture is mostly doing violence to others; countries that also tend to be telling the rest of the world what "civil" and "savage" are, which "regimes" are valid and which aren't, which borders are valid and which aren't, as if it's their right to define that for the rest of the world.

So the ones I named are countries that both don't respect the idea of sovereignty in the first place and don't have much going for them beyond behaving in that way. Plenty of countries do at least have some kind of cultural history and formed out of that history; in many cases, though the boundaries are a bit arbitrary, the history of the land and the ancestry going back generations is far from being arbitrary (like with indigenous peoples). It is the "fakest" countries that tend to treat these boundaries in the most nihilistic manner for the purposes of expansion, domination, and exploitation. Very different from the arbitrariness you (probably?) mean, that we are one world and the lines drawn can at times be kind of shallow next to the importance of that.
