@linux4noobs@programming.dev @linux4noobs@lemmy.world l wish to try out on Linux for the first time. I wish to try out with MX Linux. There are two versions available for the latest update. One is sysvinit and the other is systemd.

What are the pros and cons of the two ?

I wish to understand it well before downloading either.

@codewizard @linux4noobs@programming.dev @linux4noobs@lemmy.world #systemd is the standard and it integrates well woth modern applications.

#SysVinit is the preceding standard inherited from old #Unix OSes.

I recommend #BennoRice's Video as an introduction…

I think it's the best "non-partisan" explainer that doesn't expect you to read through #POSIX, #LinuxFromScratch and #LinuxStandardBase #documentation and just focuses on the "How?" "When?" and "Why?"
