Billionaire Rinat Akhmetov, Ukraine’s richest man, bought a vast, five-floor luxury apartment in Monaco’s most prestigious new development for an eye-popping €471 million ($554 million). The 21-room waterfront property is located in the "Le Renzo" building and stretches over about 2,500 square meters.

The reported price would make it the biggest known home sale in history, outstripping the recent sale of developer Nick Candy’s Chelsea mansion for more than $350 million or the sale of a New York penthouse apartment to hedge fund manager Ken Griffin for about $240 million.

Akhmetov has also been associated with a string of other ultra high-end property acquisitions in the past, including the 2019 purchase for €200 million of the historic Villa Les Cèdres on the French Riviera.

According to the Forbes rating, Akhmetov's capital was $4.0 billion in 2024, and increased to $7.9 billion in 2025.

This is a recent story and easily googleable.

Rinat Akhmetov has a very bad reputation in Donbass and Donetsk for his criminal acts, constant abuse of workers right, his support of military units of nazis, and everything that makes a person a billionaire. Absurdly, but ukrainians' spite of Akhmetov was weaponized by nazis into anti-Donbass rhetoric, given that Akhmetov was born there. So while Akhmetov himself isn't favorable in Donbass, his actions are used by Ukrainian nazis to blame all citizens of Donbass for many years, long before the 2014
