Gotchu fam

https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10

Also Ninite is still pretty decent for getting most of the good free utilities and software.

Don't know how to read, huh?

Maybe reexamine your preconceptions about linux. If people keep telling you something over and over, they just might have a point. Linux is way faster, more stable, and better than windows 11 in 90% of ways. The only justification i could see for using windows is if you just cant live without apex legends or fortnite or whatever multiplayer games use spyware anticheat that cant run on a real operating system. But linux is SO EASY now and 99% of the time 'just works' the same way windows xp and windows 7 used to.

Linux has shit HDR support. It barely functions in KDE. Also no AutoHDR, no RTX HDR, and no SDR-to-HDR conversion. Until this changes, I'm not using Linux.

Buy an OEM W11 pro licence key. It's "a grey area" thing, but pro respects your choices a little more. The OEM ones are cheap. Or you could fork out for an actual copy.

Make sure you have all your laptop drivers on a USB stick. Filter out the typical laptop-bloat "drivers". This will mean downloading them from your laptops support website, or reaching out to their support for a driver pack.

Use something like https://schneegans.de/windows/unattend-generator/ to generate an unattended answers file. Unattended answer files are used to configure the install process. I imagine there are a few generators out there that spell out all the options.
And reinstall W11 pro using the answer file. Then install all your drivers. Make sure to grab the latest drivers for your GPU.
And then you should have a squeaky clean install of W11 with only what you want.
You could try running OOSU11 (or is it OOSU10?) afterwards. It might be able to do some extra stuff

Welcome to Windows 11 it's gotten real bad. Even though I would rather just stick with what works Windows 11 has made it so Windows is no longer "what works" in my opinion. If this tech stuff is too much maybe look at a Steam Deck? A lot of my friends have one and they run great. It does run on Linux but everything should be setup for you. Edit: nevermind the steam deck I forgot you had already ordered a laptop

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Thanks man. I'm probably going to get a deck anyways. This laptop is slow as all hell. With 40gb ram i didn't think it'd be worse than my current pc.

I'll always upgrade a machine to the pro edition. It has a lot more utility and ability (easier to set group policies that are actually adhered to, instead of registry edits that get overwritten).

I'll always reinstall windows on any machine I buy.
It's a great way to get a "no OEM bs" version of windows.

The unattended answer files have grown in popularity considering Microsoft's bs with lack of local accounts and stuffing windows full of non-os features.
And now there are generators for answer files (instead of hand editting XML to make them).
It's a great way to get a "less MS bs" version of windows.

It's the trifecta of getting useable windows.

The USB key of drivers is to make sure there aren't any outlying drivers (especially on cheaper devices) that prevent you from using all the features of your laptop.

OOSU 10/11 is software you can run after install to try and clean up some of the remaining bs.
I don't think it detects current settings, tho. So you might accidentally re-enable/re-install so MS bs

As an aside from my windows advice, genuinely consider Linux.
Bazzite, Endeavour OS, OpenSUSE are all good flavours.
ProtonDB is a great reference of games. "natively playable" (IE native Linux), proton platinum (ie playable via proton), and proton playable (IE playable via proton with tweaks).
It can link to your steam account and filter to games you own.
If you are just gaming, try Linux for a few weeks. It's tasty.
Unfortunately, I still need windows apps so I have to dual boot. I prefer Linux. I'm considering apple (lots of windows/osx apps that don't support Linux), but I hate their lock-in and extortionate pricing.

Another one can't read. Nice.

[–] towerful@programming.dev 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That's plainly not true.
But I'm guessing you just dismissed my comment from your inbox without looking at the context.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

No I’m not going to use Linux, so don’t bother mentioning it.

Reading level: impossible

[comment detailing how to fix windows 11]

Jesus. Idk if im ready for all of this. I just want to play Nier at full speed.

Context comprehension: impossible.

You are rather unpleasant.
I wish you the best of luck playing Nier. I'm pretty sure windows is smart about it's game mode, so it won't bother you while you are playing.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Are you legitimately mental?
I specifically told everyone not to mention linux and yet here you are bringing it up multiple times.

That's the context.
Yes i am unpleasant when someone completely ignores what I've said.

This is the best you can do with win11 (pro)

[–] thagoat@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Install #archlinux straight away

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Read #thepost straight away

It's possible. You know the steam deck runs #archlinux?

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Are you?

The Steamdeck is Linux you dick

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago
[–] weegee90@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago

https://github.com/ChrisTitusTech/winutil is a good option for de-bloating and disabling a lot of the crap. Includes a nice installer similar to Ninite that uses chocolatey or winget. Or just nuke it and throw Windows 10 on it. You can use it unregistered with a few caveats.

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago

Use StartAllBack to fix the issues with the Start Menu and Taskbar. Along with O&O Shut Up 10 that others have already mentioned, It's a must-have for Windows 11 users.

[–] davidagain@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Say no to Recall if you get offered it.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I said no to everything it offered.
I'm also returning it and getting a steamdeck

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Hey

Hey dingus

You know a Steamdeck is literally a Linux PC right

Ok just checking, since you were so rude to everyone suggesting Linux. Cause that's what you're getting.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Hey dingus, so what?
I didn't want morons popping in with "use linux" in this post. They still came in.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Oh no people said something you didn't like so you threw a big tantrum over it

Eat a dick and enjoy your linux computer

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

No I’m not going to use Linux, so don’t bother mentioning it.

Im curious what tantrum you think ive thrown. Was it the one where you told someone to eat a dick? Was it that tantrum?

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Why are you returning it? You know that you're going to have to pay a restocking fee, right?

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It's slow af. For example the sound in Balatro ilags about five seconds behind.

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 0 points 11 months ago

LMAO make sure the specs are suitable for gaming before you buy next time.
