Comparing yourself to others is a sure way to be unhappy. Instead you could compare yourself to your past self.
It's just how things are when we are into niche stuff, I went through this a lot when I was younger. You need to adapt: turn the project solo, look for online collaborators, find an established shoegaze community locally and introduce them to your ideas slowly...
