I hate to break it to you, but capitalism IS people.

[–] Confidant6198@lemmy.ml 0 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Capitalism is not human nature. It is a system of exploitation that has to go

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 0 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

Selfishness is though. At least for some humans. Fair too many humans.

[–] SloppilyFloss@lemmy.ml 0 points 8 months ago

Selfishness is not a historical necessity of human nature, but rather one component of human nature as it exists in the current historical moment, shaped by current sociological, religious, political, and economic structures.

Attributing selfishness as an inherent part of human nature and letting that underpin your misanthropy is wrong on two accounts:

  • You've taken a postion of idealism, a philosophy which has viciously been made obsolete for over 100 years.
  • You've expressed a problem, humanity and its selfishness, but have no solution to your problem besides an idea: hatred against humanity. A problem without a solution is useless. You've let your hatred make you impotent.

I suggest you do some reading to better understand the idea of human nature.

A favorite of mine is Elementary Principles of Philosophy.

Capitalism is a mode of production, how on earth is capitalism "people?"

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 0 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (2 children)

All of the stuff that we call capitalism is done by people. It only exists because people do it. So it's socialism, communism or any other ism you care to mention. I will continue to hate people, thankyou. Especially the ones downvoting.

Murder is done by people too, but murder isn't people.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 0 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

The point is, it's perfectly possible to hate capitalism and people. And I hate capitalism because of the way people operate it.

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 0 points 8 months ago

This is just substituting actual analysis with misanthropy.

Violence is people in that people are what makes things violent around us

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 0 points 8 months ago

Sure, and our environment is what shapes us, and we shape our environment. Human nature is malleable.

I will continue to hate people

You've just demonstrated the biggest reason everyone hates people lol. We hate people because people act like you as soon as they disagree on something. Zero attempt to learn from others or even defend your own opinions that you feel so strongly about, just "fuck you and everyone who agrees with you if you don't tell me I'm absolutely right."

Also, just curious, do you also hate yourself when you say you hate "people?" Or is everyone else the problem and you're the only good person in your mind?

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 0 points 8 months ago

It can be both.

"Hate the capitalist system, not the capitalist"

I honestly thought I was looking at commie jesus in that picture on my phone.

Capitalism comes from people who are capitalists.

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 0 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

People are a product of the system they live under. We can look at the collapse of USSR as a concrete example here. All the same people who used to be productive members of society under the Soviet system became oligarchs once niches for exploitation opened up after the transition to capitalism. It's a systemic problem, not an individual one. That's what she's saying when she says you hate the material conditions.

And cake comes from people who are bakers. My feelings about cake are largely separate from my feelings about bakers

[–] biotin7@sopuli.xyz 0 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Ummm no they're not. If the cake is bad who do you blame ?? The cake or the baker ??

the misanthrope in me itched a little bit

[–] onlooker@lemmy.ml 0 points 8 months ago

Can't comment on either, but I do hate that piano-falling-down-the-stairs background music.

[–] Saapas@piefed.zip 0 points 8 months ago

I hate those TikTok hand gestures

[–] bhamlin@lemmy.world 0 points 8 months ago

I mean, sure. But also, I hate people too.

[–] 5in1k@lemmy.zip 0 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I hate people who try to tell me how I feel like they know better than me.
