We're coming!” The sea rescuers at the DGzRS station in Norderney throw on their oilskins and cork life jackets, start the two compressorless 72 hp diesel engines of the BREMEN motor rescue boat, and head for the Schluchter channel – the notorious sea passage off the East Frisian island. The motor rescue boat rides the meter-high ground swells. Spray whips the crew in the face as they plow through the surf.

There! An unmaneuverable ship, tossed about by the waves, is in danger of running aground on a treacherous shoal. The sea rescuers use their special equipment, which was no less modern then than it is today, to pull the shipwrecked crew safely on board.

The DGzRS is responsible for maritime search and rescue services in the North Sea and Baltic Sea. They finance all their work exclusively through donations and voluntary contributions.
