Clean everything your hands touch. Doorknobs,steering wheels, handrails, but also things like the part of the door that you push to open it or close it, the wall you unconsciously lean against.
Hygiene aside, dead skin builds up.

What's the recommended cleaning product for stuff like doorknobs? I'd rather not use soapy water, but disinfectant feels insufficient for getting rid of any dirt buildup.
Dish soap works for pretty much everything.
Vinegar is a good cleaning solution that also disinfects to an extent. But honestly? Just disinfect and then polish.
I use 70% isopropyl alcohol on anything that isn't food and won't chemically react to it.
There’s nothing wrong with dish soap but it does need to be rinsed thoroughly as it could attract more grime.
I use an all purpose cleaner. Spray on. Wipe off. Soap and water works too. Damp rag with APC for electronics, used with care, or cotton swabs with IPA - always remove power if you can and ensure it’s totally dry before plugging back in.
Disinfectant as you note isn’t a cleaner and needs a clean surface to do its job.
Vinegar doesn’t have detergent or soap properties and won’t adequately shift grease.
This seems like a “take a shower” vs clean your electronics
No manner of handwashing will prevent this. Skin sloughs off pretty constantly and over-washing will spur overproduction of sebum. Some people produce more than others.
But it is a gaming controller and there’s some likelihood of food being involved in the area, so you’re not entirely wrong.
IT guy here, this is why I advocate for every IT technicians desk should have a box of nitrile gloves....

I have sweaty hands, so controllers get like this if I don't clean them. Difference is that I do clean them, it's not hard. And I wash my hands more often and thoroughly than the vast majority of people and this still happens. A tip for all buttons, especially the sticks, triggers and bumpers is to hold the controller with whatever you're cleaning pointing down so any possible buildup falls out instead of into the controller.
They need to discover coasters too, by the puffy look of that compressed board desktop..

I fix people's stuff at a repair cafe, and it baffles me people don't clean electronics before knowingly giving them to someone else to work on them.
Yet nothing beats "kitchen PCs" I had to work with in college. It's exactly how you imagine a PC would look like in a back of a college cafeteria.
Famously, Gary Glitter gave his computer to someone else to work on and didnt even bother to take off all the child porn... Good fucking luck getting people to give them a wipe down before handing them over...
