A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

I follow the proud American tradition my grandfather had of fighting fascism.

If the government of the states decides to be fascist, well...

[–] clot27@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Fighting fascist isnt American tradition but whatever

Fuck you. Don't bring my Nazi killing grandfathers into this. I'm trying to sleep well at night in my shame over here bro!

[–] blazeknave@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Did I really need a /s for this? My family literally has a history of killing Nazis at scale. My grandfather was a bomber pilot.

[–] psud@aussie.zone 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

The trouble is no one here really knows you and they can't tell you apart from someone who would say that seriously. You even have knave in your name which matches my troll-sniffing sense

/s is there to do what tone of voice does in real life

[–] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Here me out on this:

  1. Join the war on the US side
  2. Be really bad at your job, causing tons of friendly fire accidents
  3. Defect to Canada before they catch you
  4. Enjoy some well earned pancakes with authentic maple syrup

If you go to Canada right away, there's no way you're getting the maple syrup rations as a foreigner.

[–] bigkahuna1986@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Only doing this if I get a moose steak with those pancakes.

Moose aren't like a sacred animal in Canada right?

You'll have to fight the Mounties for them:

[–] nepenthes@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

Moose are revered and they are to be respected!! They can stomp your face effortlessly.

I believe Aboriginal cultures have many deep ties with the moose. I think some people hunt and eat them, but it's not really a thing on a menu where I am (urban west coast), and is moreso a maritime/Newfoundland menu thing.

Regardless, we build many statues to them: (I have only seen one of these in person [top right, Deer Lake Newfoundland].)

Image transcription: Five moose statues from around Canada. Moose are 2m or ~~8~~ 6.5-7 feet tall (at the shoulder), so these are some bigass sculptures. One, which was a memorial for a man who died of cancer, is now covered in bras for breast cancer awareness/fundraising.

Edit: converting metres to feet is hard to do in my head.

Every so often I see a video of someone trying to mess with a moose, and I can only assume it's because they are suicidal. Unless you have a gun and decent distance, a moose will fuck your shit up.

Re: statues, we have this beautiful bastard in Cow Bay, NS!

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

converting metres to feet is hard to do in my head

Just multiply by three and then say fuck it. For bigger numbers just add a random amount.

[–] Dhar@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 years ago (2 children)

We burned your White House down once, we'll do it again!

[–] setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Serious hat for a moment, but the idea that Canadians burnt the White House is a misconception. It was British soldiers from units raised outside of Canada, which had been sent over for the war which did that.

[–] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah, the white house can burn down twice in a four year period.

[–] activ8r@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] DeaDvey@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Another British accomplice here:

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

More than half of the US will literally be throwing flowers at your feet as you march toward the capital to burn it. Its about the only thing both parties agree on. Well, that and taking AIPAC bribes to fund a genocide, both parties are down with that too. And guns now I guess. And closing the border.

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 years ago

you know how people were asking how people in Russia weren't violently fighting against Putin when he started the ukrane-russia war?

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

The usa thought the insurgency was bad in Afghanistan, wait until they see the combo of the largest undefended boarder, a people with a very similar look and culture (at least for language) and oh yeah a unpopular occupation of the country that has had more entries added into the Geneva conventions then any other nation.

Yeah, and about those nukes in shared sites on Canadian land, all isolated and infamously under defended......

[–] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

it's a similar situation that Ukrainians have right now, as many eastern Ukrainians speak russian natively, and with similar accent to Russians from south (Krasnodar, Kursk etc), so they blend right in, but this doesn't work in opposite direction. i'm not sure if they're taking advantage of it in behind enemy lines activities, as some of sabotage is ascribed to local resistance organizations

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 1 points 2 years ago

100% they are. Think of how the USA would deal with even a fraction the damage and casualties Ukraine has inflicted so far.

[–] smuuthbrane@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Thank you for your future service.

We pay in healthcare and not giving a damn if you smoke up.

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Once trump cuts off all government funding from the blue states as he keeps threatening to do, maybe they could join Canada as provinces. It should be win-win considering the blue states contribute more to the federal govt. than they receive from it; while red states receive more than they contribute. So they would make Canada stronger and Trumpistan weaker. Trump wants to expand US lands to impress his idol putin and be like him, but instead he would lose territory.

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 6 months ago

Cheers from a (future?) Cascadian! (Or Pacifican)

[–] Pieisawesome@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It’s a nice idea, but they should be independent.

California has a larger population (and also GDP, I believe) than Canada.

It makes no sense that Canada would want to more than double its population overnight.

[–] Natanox@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Create a Union. Let Europe help - we're VERY interested in a strong and democratic North American continent, and perhaps we can teach one or two things about democratic resiliency to the so-called "land of the free".

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

It's interesting to think about. If the blue states, which are not contiguous, seceded and joined together as a nation, they'd be scattered groups of states and easily defeated. But if they formed a union with Canada (the NAU?), then at least the territory of the NAU would be contiguous because most of the blue clumps are adjacent to Canada: the NE states, west coast states, Minnesota, probably Michigan, and then Illinois, which might be isolated depending on how Wisconsin would go. Colorado and New Mexico would still be isolated. Maybe they could defeat Arizona and be linked up with the west coast.

Then there'd be the issue of the US capital being D.C which along with its surroundings is overwhelmingly blue, so it would just have to be taken as part of the NE section, and Trumpistan would have to have its capital elsewhere.

[–] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 0 points 2 years ago

So you're proposing some kind of union of American states?

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

The only meaningful argument against secession is that individual states would be weaker against invaders.

Except it didn't work. We were invaded over the internet and lost. What are we protecting ourselves against? Being invaded by a world power that gives its people health care? Losing the democracy we just lost despite never having it to begin with?

The USA is bad for everyone now... Even Americans.

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I too am proud about things I did nothing to be.

[–] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 2 points 2 years ago

Actually, being American takes a lot of work. You have to pretend to be cisgender or you'll die. Being a dead american, sure, you're right. But being an alive american is hard.

[–] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The white house will be burned to black.

[–] nuke@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Diversity in that it will be Canadians proper rather than Brits along with any and all who wish to participate.

Equality in that the US should receive what it has given and what it threatens.

Inclusion in that everyone is welcome to the bonfire. To paraphrase some fuckwad, 'be there, it'll be wild'.

[–] ruk_n_rul@monyet.cc 1 points 2 years ago

Y'all's about to see a Canadian's real war face... On their homeland.

[–] RandomStickman@fedia.io 1 points 2 years ago
[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Oh definitely. Give me a side to fight on. I haven't forgotten you Canada an all the wars we fought side by side together.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Whoa there your choices are snow, jungle, desert, or Arctic ice if you join the US side. Come on how many wars do you get to choose which server environment to play on? And if we do really good we can get the DLC level European Island Country! They say that one will feature the Navy more prominently.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I already did desert. I think I wanna try jungle this time?

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I was thinking snow is a nice change of pace. As a bonus there's a lot of ice rinks!

[–] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

And you'll either get maple syrup, vodka, or smoked salmon. So much winning.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Mmm poutine, served in the helmet of my frenemies.
