Stay the same? Oh, sweet summer child. There's a story posted this morning about PCB prices skyrocketing now due to AI. Lasting out till 2030. This roller coaster ride is only getting to the wild bit.

I mean that they aren’t going to fall along with the stock, that prices will remain high regardless of supply or demand, because the new world order is “you’ll pay what we say.”

[–] SpaghettiMaster@feddit.uk 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Not the same day sure, but I'd the market crashes then its reasonable to expect it to drop at some point.

[–] Blibittyblah@futurology.today 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Why? When they can just hold firm and know you’ll pay it. That’s what every business does these days. Very little is true supply and demand.

What about when they know their stock is losing value

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh, I absolutely agree. I'm only saying that we haven't even stopped going up yet, and we won't for some time.

Guess we are gonna have to finally optimize our software to run on less while still being efficient.

Sorey, Electron.

It is a pretty good laugh to see Windows 11 and all of its old system requirements. Suddenly made a irrelevant as Microsoft Scrambles trying to keep themselves relevant. At one point it was 8-16 Gigabytes of RAM was the base. Now all of a sudden there are brand new Windows 11 laptops on the market with only 4 gigs.

And it will still be a pretty shitty experience. You might be able to run a lot of the same applications, but I can guarantee you under Chrome you're not going to be having tabs plural open. Just tab.

That's just sad, man...

My 2016 Chromebook -- which was shitty even when new -- has 4GB of RAM.

With unstable supply/demand ratios, prices are quick to rise and slow to fall.

Prices can go up very easily as vendors charge more due to real or perceived scarcity and others raise their prices to match because they want to increase their profits.

Prices only go down when one company tries to undercut its competitors, though. And, of course, they only undercut their competitor's price by a little, because they still want to make as much profits as possible. This will hopefully result in a back-and-forth competition of trying to undercut one another and steal market share from the other by offering a lower (but still profitable) price. But unless the market is extremely volatile and liquid, this back-and-forth takes time, leaving consumers to wait while the next company contemplates its next price cut.

And that's the optimistic scenario, assuming there's no oligopoly and no price collusion. If either of those are in play (and they often are), then prices will only go down if a new competitor enters the market.

No demand is relevant for price is just that right now the demand is 400% of supply so a decrease in demand doesn't make much of a dent when they've just bought up the whole supply for a year. It will affect things in 2028.

Of all the things that could go up, PCBs were absolutely not on my list.

What is it? Has copper shot into the sky?

(Bonus interview today from stock traders into how AI is going to take over the economy and stocks will never fall: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POys36tQh80 - important point to keep in mind while watching that none of the AI companies have any earnings, so they have a negative P/E.)

Copper stock prices were about 40 USD around Jan 2025 and peaked at almost 100 USD around Jan 2026, so there could be something to it. The price is now about 70 USD

A complex in Saudi Arabia that's makes like all the resin for PCBs got blowed up a while back so everyone is starting to be affected by it now
