From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Decades of brainwashing after the wall fell
As opposed to the period before the wall fell, when it was all rainbows and butterflies and intellectual honesty.
Bonn was thirsty for that juicy commie industry, don't think for one second it was all rainbows and butterflies on your side. Only a sucker of NATO, the CIA, the MI6 and the Mossad would think so.
Honestly, I think it's a lot of Stockholm Syndrome. I spent a couple of weeks on the recently opened East side in the summer of 1990... the locals' concepts of economics were - alien - like discussing a summer breeze with an octopus.
