The original comment was that people replacing their collections are dumb. But if your original collection was vinyl then everything can't be MP3s unless you replace it. So there are valid reasons for replacing (carrying a record player around with you isn't very practical).
You weren't planning to carry your record player around with you when you first bought it. You can still play records in the same context you played them in before.
