I'm not pro-zohran by any metric really [social democrat, auto dismissed], but I dont really get the criticism of him not arresting netanahyu.
1.Hes a mayor. He can't unilaterally recognize the ICC. And he can't really arrest a foreign head of state, and even then what would the charge be? The only thing would maybe be delivering him to an embassy that recognizes the ICC? Then what? Idk
2.if we push past this and say "oh well ge could just do it anyway," he'd probably be arrested and deposed immediately, and that might be best case scenario. Worst case scenario people start shooting each other when there's no way he or the progressive forces in America would win.
Don't get me wrong, this isn't a defense of anything else. But I just don't get this one bit.
the criticism ive seen more is: he should do policies that he can actually do (eg. ban zionist funding / investment), instead of posturing about policies he cannot do
Hmmm
I think... Well... No.
I think not everyone has this angle or, at least, it's not the "dominant" angle most people have atm
This is what I hear from Palestinian solidarity orgs
I do suppose I agree on that though, yeah
That's fair, I agree with that
This isn't much different from when libs were crying about South Africa not arresting Putin.
Arresting a sitting head of state sets a dangerous precedent that no country wants to set. It's part of why the ICC is a joke in the first place; nobody's going to enforce these rules except the people who have the power to escape the consequences, like the U.S. for example. It's unrealistic to expect anybody to follow through on these "arrest X leader" threat. There's no incentive to do so and every incentive not to.
Yeah
Why doesn't Trump arrest Hillary already?
Frankly, I am pro-Zohran
If liberals and Zionists keep wringing their hands about him or whatever
Then fuck it, I am not reformist, I still want revolution, but fuck, I will defend at least some of the good he does, idk...
But has he really done anything good or has he just said a lot of shit and maybe made a few bandaid solutions to systemic problems?
We can absolutely criticize him because of three facts:
He explicitly promised to arrest Netanyahu on his campaign trail.
He affirmed that he would indeed arrest Hamas members in accordance with ICC warrants if they were in New York.
New York City currently holds the legitimate President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, in captivity. There is already precedent in the US for illegally arresting world leaders, it wouldn't even be a first.
All that aside the real problem is that he lied about something he is either unable, or even uninterested to do, purely to signal to the growing anti Zionist sentiment in the US and use it as an easy way to score votes. I think it's frankly disrespectful and a little gross to use a genocide as a means to get positive press and not follow through on your promises once you get what you want.
Yeah
But tbh?
Of Mamdani did any of that
He'd be toast and probably deported to Uganda.
Then he shouldn't lie that he would do it just to convince people to vote for a Democrat. It's a failing of both him and electoralism in general.
Yeah, that's just America ln political culture
If they wanted us to vote
They wouldn't currently be taking the right away from folks
Doesn't matter to me
Obama promised a lot of shit and did none of it
He did worse, even
Mamdani promised to protect anti-Zionist speech
He did in the very beginning of his administration (in a very Zionist city, mind you, or at least with a strong Zionist connection and influence)
Cuomo had to go (I can't imagine the Cuomo brothers having more influence and the Democrats acting like nothing is wrong with that picture)
And he effectively got rid of him
Mamdani has so far disappointed...
...But frankly, I expect that of most politicians.
I would rather have someone that pisses off both the libs and the conservatives than another AOC (where everyone is literally just "fake-mad" about him, especially the liberal media).
If anything what you got is pretty much another AOC in Madani. It's the same every time with these "progressive" US politicians. Also I don't think Obama is a great comparison, he didn't position himself as a radical socialist. The purpose of characters like Madani, AOC, Bernie etc. is to take all radical energy in the country and steer it back into the established capitalist political system.
Cori Bush was much better than Mamdani, I'm sorry, dawg
Every one of "the Squad" is not there any more.
AOC is because she was and is rich and well-funded.
Even her backstory is made up and exaggerated.
She is there.
The other "Squad" members aren't.
I would rather have a fluke like Mamdani than a psy-op like AOC.
(anyway, whatever, Mamdani will disappoint, I already know this lol but I will take NYC traffic today than what is before lol)
The NYPD have been deputized by federal law enforcement in an anti terrorism task force. They 100% have jurisdiction. As the mayor he appoints the commissioner and he could choose a commissioner who would get it done.
In the process of deposing a mayor and installing a new mayor who would then install a new police commissioner there would be plenty of time for Mileikowsky to be transferred to the Hague.
We shouldn't be hating on mamdani for being a liar, fraud and spinless wretch. He is a liar and a fraud and a spinless wretch but that is because he is a democrat. This is not a reason to hate him, this is a reason to hate the democratic party and anyone who would run under their banner.
