This is tangential to your point, but I'm wondering what the utility of dividing Czechoslovakia was
Having multiple tiny states means you have a better illusion of democracy and consensus, more opportunities to have politicians who can support your program, more votes in the UN, etc.
My assumption is smaller countries are weaker and easier to dominate.
