Don't forget killing the last Pope.

We’re talking about his failures.

That pope was pretty decent, as far as popes go.

Find me a lower bar, I'll pay for your digging permit

I'm just saying: if we get a decent one, let's not kill him, because then he'll get replaced. That's like rerolling a 19.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think we got a better one, despite the fact he's an American. I'm just saying based on the results so far if we keep killing em, maybe we'll eventually get someone who'll prosecute the pedos.

I don't think popes have prosecutorial power...

[–] rapchee@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

"god told me they should be prosecuted, you guys get on it"

[–] trublu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They're the leader of Vatican City, a sovereign nation, and the head of the Catholic Church, an organization full of child rapists. Seems to me they could start up with that any old time.

So they can prosecute anyone in the Vatican?

How will any criminal escape the long arm of the Catholic law?

The Pope can excommunicate any member of the Catholic church, but just because someone is Catholic doesn't give the church legal jurisdiction over them in other sovereign countries.

[–] trublu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago

That's basically what I mean. They can start by excommunicating, which would be a powerful statement at least to their own people. But they can also take whatever information they have to the relevant law enforcement body with jurisdiction to do something about it. Just because they're not the cops in most places in the world doesn't mean there aren't cops who could investigate and prosecute if it's warranted, and it doesn't mean that the thing they can do is useless or meaningless.
